CRASH… the t.v. series? Oh jeez!
Just don’t get me started on another CRASH/Paul Haggis rant.
CRASH, probably the most insulting and ridiculous film to ever win an Academy Award for Best Picture is to be translated into a t.v. series.
For the love of God, why?
Lionsgate will finance the show (mark of quality right there) which will run on the Starz Network for a 13-episode run, marking the channel’s first ever original drama. It’s said that none of the major characters from the film are likely to be present though Don Cheadle is said to be on board as director for a few episodes, something which Haggis himself will also do.
Haggis and Bobby Moresco, the joint screenwriters of the 2005 film will pen the pilot episode and it’s a quick venture back onto the small screen after their crime drama series The Black Donnellys was officially cancelled after one season.
Kevin Beggs, the president of programming and production for Lionsgate told Variety their plan for the show…
“We’ll use the style of storytelling from the movie,” he said, “but there’ll be new characters and new stories to get into the subjects of race and class, and the bigotry that’s simmering under the skin of a city like Los Angeles.”
Oh, wow. Same old shit then. Can’t wait for this.

It was a sop to the right-wing to ignroe Brokeback and give Crash an Oscar. That movie was one of the most addle-brained, lowbrow excuses for a flim I’d ever seen.
I’ve seen some sloppy, syrupy pieces of crap dealing with race but Crash easily ranks as the worst.
Paul Haggis should be ashamed of it. And the way Lionsgate is doing financially, putting out flop after flop, they should start planning for their careers after their studio finally goes bankrupt.

I thought Crash was terrific. Sure its basic message was banal–racism is bad–but its sad that something so obvious is so relevant. Maybe because I see things as portrayed in the film every day. But besides that it was just really well written and acted; I thought it deserved the best picture oscar all the way.
I don’t know how a TV series would do though, since it would have little connection in talent to the makers of the film…

CRASH… well acted perhaps. In places. Sandra Bullock’s best work of her career comes in a 2 minute spell in this movie.
Cheadle and Phillipe are impressive in this too.
Well written? Not for my money. Every line of dialogue was to further the continuation of the heavy handed and one-dimensional narrative that kinda loses the film’s meaning very, very quickly.
