I can’t make up my mind as to whether Shoot ‘Em Up is the greatest looking action movie in years, or whether it’s the dumbest.
I kinda felt the same before Smokin’ Aces. I couldn’t tell from the trailer exactly where my stance was (although the trailers were enough to get me into the theatre so I guess it must have worked) but once I saw the stylish action movie, I realised I had nothing to worry about.
Joe Carnahan took a huge risk with Smokin’ Aces and it paid off where it didn’t for Lucky Number Slevin which tried it’s own style, but it never really came together. So now comes Shoot ‘Em Up, which is written and directed by Michael Davis. The movie promises ridiculous dialogue, tons of sex and over the top performances along with hopefully some cool action sequences like this one.

I really love Monica Bellucci. She still has it.
Oh, and New Line really should have premiered this as the movie’s trailer. Imagine how many tickets it would have sold alone?
Look for this movie in a cinema near you this weekend. Where do you stand on the movie, ridiculous or intriguing?
Again I’m still in-between and of course if you can only see one movie this weekend then it should be 3:10 to Yuma, but this looks like a fun ride.

Ugh. The juxtaposition of guns and sex is intriguing, but c’mon. Unless that was played for a laugh? I know I laughed at the ridiculousness (if that’s a word) of the whole scene. And the useless one-liner? I think the scene accomplishes alot, in terms of movement, but the very act of screwing during a gunfight is sorta whacky. In a bad way.
Yeah it’s over-the top but it’s fun. I’ll admit I hated Crank that tried the same thing but this one for some reason has clicked with me. I think this one might be more aware of itself as being ridiculous than Crank was.
You know, Live Free or Die Hard was ridiculous but it took itself seriously, leaving us with a horrid movie. This one knows what it wants to be and I think it will achieve it.
Lucky old Clive Owen ther jammy git, how old is Moncia Bellucci, she still is a knockout. The last line cracked me up, for brainless fun which you do need sometimes I think I’ll go and see this one.
