Terrence Howard has spoke for the first time in response to last week’s shocking announcement that he was to be dropped from the IRON MAN sequel because of his pay demands, his character of Col. Jim Rhodes replaced with Don Cheadle.
Speaking to NPR, he called the decision “the surprise of a lifetime”.
Speaking to NPR, he called the decision “the surprise of a lifetime”.
“It was the surprise of a lifetime,” he said. “There was no explanation. [The contract] just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up.”
Interestingly, there is no denial from the actor that he was hunting out for more cash but it sure seems like the second chance that Jon Favreau got when he asked for a pay increase wasn’t given to Howard on this occasion.
So far, Marvel, Robert Downey Jr and Jon Favreau have yet to publicly talk about the situation.

I dont see the big deal?
I doubt it was that much of a surprise.
What were they thinking? I like Don Cheadle and he is a wonderful actor, but the next movie is dependent upon Terrence Howard’s famous line. So what the hell were they thinking? They did a McCain crazy stunt, like when he nominated Palin as his VP. What the hell were they thinking? They need to rethink this whole thing and apologize to Terrence Howard and give him the part. He is what the part calls for, not Don Cheadle. We won’t forget in 2010. I will boycott the show and I implore everyone else to do the same.
