A sickening post from Cinema Blend which should be taken down immediately

I was just going to ignore this but ya know, I can’t sit back and do nothing. Too often in this world we let things go to avoid confrontation, we avoid doing the right thing and leave it to someone else to get off their ass and make a stand.

I’m guilty of it too but man, I can’t let this pass. It has effected me far too deeply.

I’ve had my problems with the hack site Cinema Blend for quite some time now. They use to be a website I would visit regularly but over the past 18 months, well, their actions have been despicable. I have never seen a website be so desperate for hits that it takes EVERY single rumor e-mail they receive as a legit bit of movie news. That’s even if they receive the e-mails they claim. Outrageous casting after outrageous casting they told us about over 2008, none of them ever came true.

I remember at the height of the JUSTICE LEAGUE fan frenzy, they would continue to post on a daily basis another piece of bullshit news. All to generate traffic. That site has absolutely no credibility with me, I have stopped visiting it for a long time now. I hate sites that post anything (the recent Batman rumors) just to capitalise on what is popular to bring more clicks to their page.

But that’s easy solved, I just don’t visit the site and leave their writers to craft their great works of fiction.

But I simply can’t let this slip. I visited DIGG today and what I was presented with was one of the most sickening things I have ever seen on a movie website. It’s titled “The 100 Most Likely People To Die in 2009″, a feature article written by Cinema Blend and features as the title suggests 100 people they believe are near to croaking and who will die this year, along with their expected “cause”, their reasoning and astonishingly, “Chances of seeing an obituary” which is broken down into a percentage that some loser has calculated in his head.

After 2008 when we have lost so many of cinema’s greats which has continued to flood into the early part of this year, I find this shocking and something we shouldn’t stand for. I’m going to post this everywhere I can, get as many of my fellow webmasters to rally with me and try and get an apology from CB and the article taken down ASAP.

Running a movie website is suppose to be fun and crafting articles is a pleasure but I can’t imagine what demented soul took pleasure from writing that article. This is not a game, this is not a casting speculation which is fun to predict. This is real life, real people with real sufferings and real families. It should not be tolerated.

The article, merely written to generate entertainment value and lots of hits (which has obviously worked) out of the suffering of those like Roger Ebert, Patrick Swayze and Andy Rooney is one of the most heinous acts I have ever seen on any website.

Mack Radwen is the author of the post which got the response from the clown head over at CB, Josh Tyler, to proclaim “Greatness” in the comments section. An unfortunate response I would say.

Please voice your disgust in the comments section or better yet, e-mail the author mackrawden @ cinemablend.com (remove the spaces) or better yet the owner josh @ cinemablend.com (remove the spaces). This won’t be the last you hear of this, mark my words.

  1. It’s actually a common hobby with some people - a “dead pool”, where people bet on who’s going to die in a given year. Sick, possibly, and certainly morbid.

But, why invoke the Streisand Effect here? That is, by calling attention to the post, you’re encouraging people to click on it. Thereby giving Cinema Blend more traffic and encouraging them to run further similar articles. Complaints from people who don’t normally visit the site probably won’t encourage them to stop, especially if they’re traffic-whoring hacks as you claim.

True, but Tom Sizemore, Tank Abbott, and Bobby Heenan are all intriguing shouts.

  5. I wonder when we ran all these JLA and Batman casting rumors you’re talking about? I think you have us confused with The Sun.

  11. It might’ve been a more offensive article if it contained any actual humor or insight. It sure takes guts to take such a broad, large list of people, most of whom have rather obviously-noted health/addiction/otherwise problems, and then speculate without anything at stake. And if someone has a “2% chance of seeing an obituary”, what exactly is the point of putting them on a list of “most likely to die”?

You’re right that it’s a pretty shameless and desperate grab for traffic. It’s also among the more lame and toothless.

  13. I clicked on it. I couldn’t help myself.

Does anyone go to that site? I mean, there are more comments here about this story than there are on Cinema Blend.

Lord knows I love to make waves, but I’m not sure I get the point of their article besides web traffic stats. Oddly enough, Mack talks about certain people on his list as being “mean,” not noticing the irony of the fact that he is writing an article that salivates over the deaths of others.

Oh, and Peter … good call on those links. The guys at Blend are obviously liars.

  15. I don’t want to come across as a very conservative person because Im really not, but our culture continues to spiral into the toliet. There is NO such thing as class anymore. People think everything is a joke and standards of respect are nowhere to be found.
Look at the majority of comments by posters. Many are just kicking people when there down or have a decidedly negative look at almost everything thing.
Believe me Matt, if they read your response to what they did they would just laugh it off. They don’t care. You either have respect in this life or you don’t. Theres no middle ground. SAD but truer every day. Good job on your part!

I can understand you felt strongly enough to post this here Matt. But yeah, I can’t help feel the peeps over at Cinema Blend are thanking you for diverting more traffic their way.

In any case, it’s certainly an article that lacks taste.

Still, I reckon £10 on Tom Sizemore is worth a punt ;)

Say what you want about cinemablend, their website layout is ten times better than yours.

You know what’s worse than tasteless articles on other websites…

Cynical fake outrage articles designed to try and rabble-rouse and whore hits of your own.

    Hypocritical much?

Then rant about an article you read over there anyway.

    WTF?

What was the point of this article if not to whore for hit of your own. You’re worse than the catholic groups that tried to get Golden Compass banned for being too Athiest.

Oh & LMAO @ Dave. pwned.

Wow, were you fired as a writer from that site? Were you banned? You surely have too much free time if you get outraged by that.
