Not only is MAMMA MIA the biggest U.K. cinema release of all time (£66 million final gross), it has now also taken the mantle as being the fastest selling DVD in this country.

Brits have gone crazy for the Abba musical which sold 1.69 million units on it’s first day. Incredible.

One wonders if THE DARK KNIGHT in two weeks will be able to top it? (though when you see TITANIC, THE FULL MONTY and now MAMMA MIA are female centric flicks, showing that when females can hatch onto something they really do go crazy).

James Davies, the DVD buyer for the U.K. shop retailer Asda said…

‘We are blown away with the customers response to Mamma Mia!- The Movie. We sold 300,000 copies, our biggest day one DVD of all time. At its peak, we were selling 10 copies a second with the DVD leaving in 15% of all baskets on the day.”
