Happy 45th Birthday QUENTIN TARANTINO!

Quentin TarantinoCan you believe the young, hip and cool director that burst onto the scenes just over 15 years ago has turned 45 today? 45!

Crazy. He’s a veteran now but I just wish he worked faster and got more of his damn movies out. Then again when you are writing and directing your own movies you can’t possibly have the work ethic of a Spielberg or a Nolan and as long as he keeps putting out movies of quality, then they are worth the wait and still carry that aura of an “event” opening.

There’s a cool little tribute video getting a lot of recognition on Youtube right now from a 25-Year-Old freelance editor nicknamed barringer82 which I thought might be appropriate to upload as a kind of birthday celebration for the great director. It’s not the best edited clip I’ve ever seen but it most definitely serves it’s purpose.

Happy Birthday Quentin, I hoped you have enjoyed your day and your night out, or whatever you are planning. Probably some crazy night of obscure Asian flicks or something.

But please, get straight back to the office tomorrow and work on Inglorious Bastards! Thank you!

the man, the myth, the legend! how boring would the last 15 years of cinema be without QT?!

Absolutely. Without QT’s hipster flicks the past 15 years wouldn’t have been as fun. The ultimate movie geek makes ultimate movie geek pictures and, as you say Matt, it’d be great if he worked a bit faster.

Here’s to Tarantino then as he well and truly turns to middle age. Here’s hoping Inglorious Bastards or whatever he brings next is going to be a belter.

  5. His birthday party was probably a rip-off - OOPS, I mean homage - to some birthday party scene in some z-grade exploitation flick that nobody’s ever heard of. You know the kind … the kind that supposedly “hip” people name-drop in order to maintain their indy cred, regardless of whether they actually LIKE the film.

    The guy’s overrated. Face it.

Ah Ray, I don’t agree and I hate the term “overrated” but I undertsand where people don’t like QT. He is a hack when it comes to making movies, but he does it in a creative way. I can’t fault the way he visualises movies and, as a nerdy film geek, fleshes out cathartic narratives with nifty dialogue and enthusiasm. I don’t hold with Tarantino deification, but as a writer and director he’s made some of the most enjoyable on-screen entertainment of the past 15 years.

The only gripes I’ve really got with Tarantino are the recent trends for movies tagged “Quentin Tarantino presents…” and his persistant, offputting use of racist language. I’m also probably in the minority that I think his recent works (Kill Bill and Death Proof) are more satisfying than his most-exhalted early flicks.
