A bloody good poster for KILL BILL!

I don’t know how an Auckland local t.v. company got permission to decorate a movie’s marketing outside of the realm of the banner (maybe they just didn’t and did it anyway?) but this is one eye catching poster that is pretty darn cool.

And before you ask, of course those will be prop cars. Doesn’t it just suit the film beautifully?

  1. That is one of the most inspired innovative marketing masterstrokes I’ve ever seen! That my, friends, is art.

Who said that they were all backward in the Antipodes eh?

  2. Hmmm. It is creative. It is also unfortunate we devote so much creative energy to blood and guts. That’s not art James…it’s creative trash.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 3, 2008

  3. Creative, but just a gimmick.

    Comment by Stretch | June 4, 2008

  4. Chase, you are an ignorant buffoon. That is totally art and some of the best design I have seen in a long time. You probably also don’t consider horror movies a legitimate form of film. How about you stop crying and start realizing.. IT’S NOT REAL!!! … I hate people that dismiss what is art.

Comment by Brandon Dorrin | June 4, 2008

  5. Art is everywhere Chase if you open your eyes and, most crucially, open your mind. Applying narrow conceptual labels: that defeats any ideal of creativity.

There is an art to everything and everything is art.

Comment by James Clayton | June 4, 2008

  6. isn’t art anything creative?
it doesn’t have to be a picasso in order to be called art, right?

    Comment by Ruud | June 4, 2008

  7. I’ve yet to see post-modern art that hasn’t been labelled “creative trash” by someone.

Comment by Michael Kaminski | June 4, 2008

  8. Brandon- Once you realize all this “art” is part of a bigger scheme to desynthesize people, then you will understand. You did guess right in pegging me for a horror movie hater. It is MUCH easier to make a horror movie filled with blood than to create an enlightened piece. Of course, films like Pyscho and Sixth Sense do not need the blood…why? Because they are psychologically trips. PYSCHO showed no blood…I repeat…NO BLOOD. And I’m not crying…just trying to enlighten a few. Everyone needs to realize art influences people. It’s time artists take responsibility for what they create. But that might not happen lol.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 4, 2008

  9. James- My Eyes are wider than most people. Look, I do not expect most people in the age we currently live in to understand what real art is. We have no starting point except our own. And what is “real” art. Each person has a different reaction to different art. But let me tell you this…if one goes to the Great Pyramids…then that person will start to change their perception of what art can truly be.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 4, 2008

  10. Rudd- NO…art is not anything creative. It takes a ton of creativity to scheme and pillage a society and keep them in bondage. Hitler was not creative. Oligarchies are not creative.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 4, 2008

  11. Chase, for someone as purportedly educated as yourself you sure fall pretty easily into the trap of elitism.
Don’t try to tell us what is and isn’t art–just tell us you didn’t like this particular one.

Comment by Michael Kaminski | June 4, 2008

  12. Michael- Keep buying into the bloodshed. I am certainly not the one getting trapped lol.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 4, 2008

  13. Chase- A bit pompous aren’t we? A “part of a bigger scheme to desynthesize people”? Sure hope “The Man” doesn’t try to desynthesize me. Broaden your horizons. Oh, don’t stop reading now…

Rudd and Michael- You are absolutely right. Art is what you consider art. Others may agree or disagree. Just as you may agree and disagree with others. Such as our expert Chase here. BTW Chase, what if one were to say they don’t consider the pyramids as “art”? Are they not entitled to thier own opinion or as Orwell predicted, will we all share your opinion soon?

In closing, that Kill Bill thing is awesome. And art. Nya.

  14. “Everyone needs to realize art influences people. It’s time artists take responsibility for what they create.”

    – B.S.!

I am soooo tired of people telling other people how to live their lives. I am an intelligent, well formed, artiulate adult but i looooove seeing people getting massarced in MOVIES! Because everyone knows they are MOVIES!

When i see people blown apart for real on TV it makes me sick to my stomach. Raise your own kids and show them the difference between reality and entertainment! and if you are just some guy that kills a bunch of teens at a lake because you saw Friday the 13th.. you had a helluvalot of other problems besides that movie!

Comment by Brandon Dorrin | June 4, 2008

  15. I’m not buying into any bloodshed Chase. I don’t really think that ad is all that clever, really. But its as legitimate as any example of post-modern art I’ve seen, and the fact that it is an advertisement takes away nothing. Just as any “high art,” especially of the post-modern vein, it makes a statement about contemporary culture, showing our fascination with violence, the appeal of extreme “shock value” to get our attention in an increasingly sensory-overload society, the replacement that advertising and corporations have taken to traditional modes of visual art, and in case you missed it, this–including the film Kill Bill–its itself a SATIRE on hyper-violence, its over-the-top on purpose. Apparently you missed the most important aspect of this art–a commentary on our violent media through exaggeration.

So please, if you get turned off by violence that is fine, lots of people are turned off and dislike how much violence is in media and in art–even though art and violence have existed hand-in-hand since the dawn of art itself–but don’t give us elitist bullshit about what constitues art because even a high school student can detect the fallacy of such crap, its as obvious as the gore-splattered ad we are talking about. For all your talk about art, you don’t even really understand the subject you are discussing.

Comment by Michael Kaminski | June 4, 2008

  16. Matt G- Pompous…no. I’m more like Gary Cooper’s character in High Noon…I have the sack to point out what’s goin o…and get the expected typical responses. U guy’s r making this too easy. BTW Matt…go to the pyramids and try not to have an enlightened experience. And dude, cut the Orwell crap. Think what u want…but realize this shits all apart of a bigger program.Wake up man.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 5, 2008

  17. brandon- only bs because u can’t see thru the trees. Listen, one needs to look no further than art war propaganda 2 realize art has a serious effect. Remember that little scene depicting the Boston massacre falsly? Yeah, only was a key piece to starting the “revolution.” wake up bro. U guy’s give me common…unenlightened responses…and I’m elitist? Gotcha.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 5, 2008

  18. Michael-hmmm…the problem is this:u believe bloodshed is justified b/c it points out our societies fascination with it. Hmmm. Ever see 1984?there’s aterm called double speak. If it pleases the court, I’m gonna coin a new one today…its called double art. U justify bloodshed 4 that sake of acknowledge bloodshed in art. Its all that same man to a passer by. Its a subconscious thing. I understand that satire behind Kill Bill, but cmon, why do you think Tarentino…

Comment by Chase Adams | June 5, 2008

  19. @ Micheael cont-
got a shot to become big time? Yes, he has a ton of talent, its just misguided. Essentially he’s a tool for tha perpetuation of violence. Sorry, but thats tha deal. Look, I’ve seen jackie brown a shit of times, its artistic at times, but tha main thing is violence. Not a new idea. I’m not that impressed. Ok. Thats it for me guys. Always here to enlighten. Ttyl.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 5, 2008

  20. I feel Sorry for you, Chase.

    Comment by ZarathustrA | June 5, 2008

  21. Oh Chase my friend, (nice name by the way) I feel that despite your pleas for the majority here to seek enlightenment and transcend our primitive, drooling state that’s been coerced upon us by immoral artists and other conspiracies exerting cognitive coercion, you are the one who needs enlightenment.

Open-minded? You seem to be wrapped up in divisive conceptualisations of cultural categorisation. You’ve decided what’s worthy and what’s not. You say that you’re enlighted because you can intellectually detect “the great scheme” and distance yourself from it through criticism. I’d say that the rest of us are enlightened because we recognise how art, advertising and the cultural industries work but, unlike you, don’t rigidly confine ourselves to a negative reaction but gather an acceptant appraisal, whether we subjectively like the advert or not.

Comment by James Clayton | June 5, 2008

  22. All in all, my view is that the advert is innovative and very effective in achieving its purpose of promoting a product and getting the attention of passers-by. I like Kill Bill, manga-style and samurai lore so it appeals to me and I like blood. This isn’t because violent films and “irresponsible artists” have affected me in a perverse manner, but because blood is a key part of the universe - it is life force - that society as a whole, and this includes you Chase, has configured as something disgusting and undesirable. It’s a part of “The Abject” (film studies student should probably know about this), that which unnerves us and exists in our psyche as a remains from our pre-cultural, primordial state. Blood and violnt disorder we reject, but yet subconsciously we still have a fascination with them deeply-rooted in pour subconscious, and that’s why people like horror movies and violent art. Chase, you’re denying your subconscious essence. I’d say that you’re insecure and emotionally fraught, unable to face the trauma of chaos and the loss of clear categorisation provided by your cosy elitist cultural conditioning. Such denial and denunication does not lead to any path of enlightenment…

Comment by James Clayton | June 5, 2008

  23. James.. straight up.

That was so good i’m just gonna stand behind you and way my fist, angrily. That was a fantastic description for what needed to be said. I commend you, that was very insightful and whatever i would come back with would be a regurgitation of your idea. good lookin’ out for the cause.

Comment by Brandon Dorrin | June 5, 2008

  24. Everyone-

I’m gonna go ahead keep this short and to tha point. Obviously, you guys’ opinion of this will not change. Thats fine. Personally, I enjoy observing feel good images…there’s enuff bloodshed in our world. James-I reject tha bloodshed and I’m emotionally fraugt? Cmon man..do u know how ridiculous that is. Furthermore, my ancestors know all about blood…if anyone has seen 300, they have seen my ancestors. Thats right, I’m one of tha few Spartans walking this land. We’ve been facing chaos head on all tha way back to Achilles annilating people at Troy. No shit blood is apart of tha world. But there’s no sense to reinforce this. You’re only impeding tha coming of a new golden age…but alas, its gonna happen anyways. good day my film brethrean.

  25. I was tempted to post a lengthy reply filled with intelligent insights and thought provoking observations.

But I’ll settle to say that Chase Adams, in my opinion, is a bit of a cunt.

    Comment by Roars | June 5, 2008

  26. hahahahaha… ZING! long live violence! it gets my juices flowin and i won’t apologize for that!

Comment by Brandon Dorrin | June 5, 2008

  27. brandon and roars- u guys r just boys. Once u grow up you’ll c things a bit different. Chaser out.

Comment by Chase Adams | June 6, 2008

  28. Lol, you dick. I’m 38. And yes, go ahead and point out my lack of intellect for resorting to calling you a cunt, (which I think you are). But you know, I’m just exercising my freedom to say the fuck I want.

The fact is, there seems little point in attempting to engage with you in an informed and worthwhile discussion. The problem here is not so much your ill-chosen elitist attitude, but rather the narrow-mindedness with which you present your opinions.

You presume that you are right, regardless of whatever anyone else here dares to say. And in so doing, you render any discussion as pointless. Maybe it is you that needs to open his eyes because, frankly, you sound fanatical in your beliefs. If you ask me, being so wrapped up in your own beliefs like that is far more dangerous than watching these gory movies you spout your propaganda about.

In short, might I suggest that you get out more. Get a girlfriend. Go make a sandwich.

Oh, and watch Kill Bill. It’s a rather splendid film indeed.

    Comment by Roars | June 6, 2008

  29. i just erased a page worth on thoughts because at the end of it i realized something.. you’re a douche bag.

I don’t care what you think and in the end you’ll never be able to stop the juggernaut that is, violent entertainment.

There will always be intelligent people that can draw the line in what is real and not. There will always be people that enjoy the idea of violent entertainment because..(drum roll) IT’S NOT REAL!

I don’t know if you know but those people that die in horror movies and the likes.. they’re not actually dead. The blood on screen is just pancake syrup dyed red. The knives they get stabbed with are rubber. It’s looks real, believe me, it looks real but.. IT’S NOT!

So to end.. blow me, you can ‘t stop it and it’s only gonna get worse (and i love it!). So Sit down, grab a bag of popcorn and for once peek through your fingers because…

    I T’ S N O T R E A L !!!

P.S. - i’m 27 and i hope your in your 50’s or 60’s because i’m part of the next generation that will swallow your pussy morals and, finally we’ll be able to start having fun. straight up.
