Remembering Arthur C. Clarke

By now, you will have all heard that visionary science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke has passed away in his long adopted home of Sri Lanka. It seems that as my electricity faded out yesterday so did the life of one of the truly legendary writers of the 20th century.

I can’t claim to have ever read a novel of his but to obsessed movie fans everywhere, he will always be remembered as the guy who collaborated with the great Stanley Kubrick on one of the most important science fiction films of all time.

Not only that, many believe it to be the greatest film of all time. It is of course 2001: A Space Odyssey, a movie tale so powerful it’s difficult to put into words.

Clarke was a scientist, a writer, inventor and so much more.

Below is a birthday message from just a few months ago which has become a nice goodbye from Clark and let’s hope that his works Rendezous with Rama and Childhood’s End find their way through development hell and into a filming schedule. And most importantly, that they are made to a level that can match up to Clarke’s imagination.
