Susan Sarandon and John Goodman are in talks to play the parents of Emile Hirsch’s lead character in the live action Speed Racer movie. If they sign on the dotted line, Goodman will be Pops, a race car owner and builder whilst Sarandon is described as being the backbone of the family.
The Wachowski’s are now on the lookout for Speed’s girlfriend Trixie and also for his mysterious rival Racer X.
John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as a couple? Well it’s a pairing that doesn’t seem to fit but both of them have been around for so long now…. we can’t really doubt their quality. Both have tons of movies on the horizon and seemingly aren’t slowing down their careers even though both are well north of 50 (Sarandon is 60!).
Film is scheduled to shoot in Germany this summer for a May 2008 release.

This is the first bad news I have heard about this movie. Susan Sarandon should be playing Speed’s grandmother, not mother. The guy they hired to play Speed is 20 years old. Goodman physically is the right guy for Pops, but he’s pretty old, too.
