I was watching classic Star Trek last night actually.
I saw the classic Richard Matheson (I Am Legend) scripted episode The Enemy Within, one of my absolute favourites from the first season. It is of course the famous episode where two Kirks fight off against each other, one of which has all the good energy and the other with all the bad ones.
It’s a terrific episode, pre-John Woo era, which unsurprisingly from Matheson has some really deep connotations and psychological factors.
A one who’s message is a good commander and Captain of the Enterprise needs both sides of his personality to be successful and to even exist.
Another episode I saw was The Naked Time, in which Spock (and most of the crew infact) contracted a disease which sent you insane before eventually you would die. There’s a rare moment in Trek canon during this episode where Spock completely breaks down and I couldn’t help but think I was actually watching Zachary Quinto on screen.
They look and act so eerily similar…
I swear, Quinto and Nimoy must be related or something.
Here’s some spy images from JFX Online, showing Quinto with those pointy ears. It’s frikkin’ scary guys…

I think Quinto will make an amazing Spock.
He’s an interesting young actor who has a toughness, a rigidness but also a deep vulnerability at times which sometimes Spock needs to project.
People have been dissing the casting for Star Trek but for the most part, I’m really happy with what Abrams has put together. I maybe would have preferred a more experienced Kirk, but I think the cast is fine.
I have more faith in these names than some of those who were linked with the movie, in truth. I will probably touch on this more in the future, but so far so good is what I say.

Well, Abrams has always known how to pick a cast, so I had/have no doubts that he would pick an awesome group.
I still don’t think you can bring new blood to star Trek by reinterpreting it’s most iconic characters. Oh well, it will hopefully be great anyway, regardless of the screenwriters.
Fuck me! That’s Uncanny.
I am not a Trekkie (Star Wars reigns supreme!) and don’t know anything really about Star Trek. I’ve never had the time or inclination to delve into the deep Trek lore, but I do know that Zachary Quinto is an excellent choice to play Spock. I love watching him in Heroes – an absolutely excellent actor with an unnerving edge.
He’s got the right kind of appearance and has an eerie, slightly rigid quality as Matt said. Most definitely the perfect choice.
Yes, I remember the scene in Heroes where Slyer is outside the door of his mother’s room after hitting her and it reminded me of the scene above from ST:TOS
I don’t like Star Trek, never could get into it. But I don’t mind JJ Abrams. So I’ll probably end up seeing this. Mostly because I’ll probably get paid to see it.
On a different note, the new layout of this site isn’t as good as the old one. It seems a little unorganized. Before you guys had a good layout. Easy to navigate the news without having to read everything. You should go back to that or something similar.
