X-Men: The Prequel?

xmenThough the Wolverine and Magneto movies seem to be moving ahead at a fair clip, there’s been little to no news on another ensemble X-pic - which is head scratchingly bizarre considering X-Men 3 made a shed-load of cash.

I don’t think Fox have ever completely ruled out an X-Men 4 but the general belief was that they’ve told the story they wanted to with the characters of the first three films.

Now, courtesy of Xmenfilms.net, there’s further news on possible X-Men features. Turns out if you tap in X-MenOrigins.com into your browser you’ll get redirected to Fox’s homepage. The site speculates that Fox may drop that title in with their Magneto and Wolverine pics as they both deal with the characters in their early years.

However, there’s a good chance that the domain could also in fact be a precursor to a new X-Men film. There’s been murmurings of Young X-Men and X-Men Year Zero/One ideas going around (my hope would be that they set it in the 60s to bring it inline with the comics and play up the MLK/Malcolm X similarities) so perhaps there’s movement on one of those concepts.

Incidentally, does anybody else think that Fox should switch their X-prequel creative teams, with Gavin Hood doing Magneto and David Goyer Wolverine? That seems to make a lot more sense to me.

  2. An X-Men prequel film? I think I speak for everyone when I say, “Enough with the damned prequels already! We can tell WELL in advance who will live and die –there’s no suspence because we already know what’s going to happen!”

    That said, a Wolverine film could be excellent, if they give it the proper scoep, like Batman Begins did for Bruce Wayne. Begin in the 1940’s. It’s only right since Wolverine is of course MUCH older than anyone knows –even himself! And then go onto his days in Japan as a failed samurai.
    Then onto Madripoor and his days as an East Asian swashbuckler. His time as a govenrment assassin for Department K and the dirt he did in the 1960’s –a story made more interesting by the fact the Sabertooth (aka Kyle Creed) was Wolverine’s commanding officer and fellow assassin during that time. Flesh out the story of the Weapon-X program a little bit more, and finally culminate with his meeting Rogue that snowy day in Canada.

    THAT’s the plot for any Wolverine prequel movie. Frank Miller virtually wrote the script for Batman Begins twenty years ago with Batman: Year One/Dark Knight Returns. All Nolan/Nolan/Goyer did was flesh it out and add a couple of extra vilains. Although it would require a broader canvas give the scope it needs, a Wolverine movie should do the same. Anything less and they might as well just shoot a couple of ifght scenes and save them for the next X-Men movie.
