Not that I particularly take any news story that originates from The Sun as being newsworthy and don’t think for a second I believe today’s story that Danny Boyle has been offered the gig of directing the next James Bond movie…
…BUT…
he would be an interesting choice wouldn’t he?

I know I was in the minority by praising QUANTUM OF SOLACE for it’s fresh approach to the Bond genre but honestly, I will take a kick-ass Bond movie that doesn’t stick firmly to the rigid formula any day over the same tired old 007 movies that plagued the series for years.
I know SOLACE had it’s critics but I don’t particularly want to see CASINO ROYALE everytime I see a Bond movie.
I love the idea of seeing something different every couple of years. Like the ALIEN franchise, I love that each movie feels different and the reason for that is they kept hiring talented directors with their own personal voice. What’s wrong with every new Bond movie being a showcase for that particular director’s vision?
And if means one day we might see Quentin Tarantino direct a Bond movie, isn’t that worth it?
Marc Forster on QUANTUM OF SOLACE was an inspired choice, though he did fall down on the action scenes. Boyle, we know, revels in them.
The only shred of potential source for The Sun’s legitimacy for Boyle to direct Bond is the fact that Bond producer Callum McDougal also produced Boyle’s movie THE BEACH, so there is a connection.
The Sun neglect to mention though, that THE BEACH was a disaster.
Still Boyle to direct BOND 23? IT’S NOT A TRUE STORY but it’s a fun choice to think about. How would you feel about the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, SUNSHINE, 28 DAYS LATER, THE BEACH, TRAINSPOTTING director helming Daniel Craig’s next outing?

that would be awesome. and i agree about the action scenes being the key – it can only work if Boyle directs them (and not the 2nd Unit guy from Bourne)
The whole new directors idea is good but I Boyle is probably the last guy I see directing Bond. His style is far from what I imagine as bondish.
Danny Boyle. Lemme think about that “HELL NO!”
I’m sorry but Slumdog Millionaire doesn’t suddenly elevate him to being a good director. That’s like saying because Jan DeBont directed Speed that he’s a good director.
Sometimes filmamkers make something that gets good press in spite of their shortcomings, not because of it.
Danny Boyle directing a Bond movie can be summed up as “Epic Fail.”
I’d dug practically everything Boyle has done (except Slumdog), but him in Bonds directing chair seems bit of a strech. I have no doubt that he could pull it off, but I just don’t see any need for it.
I could, however, see Alfonso Cuaron making an awesome Bond flick.
I think its just what the next Bond needs: a totally fresh approach. my only concern is that Boyle sells out. (a Bond film is a filmmaker’s retirement fund essentially)
That would be lame Bond should not corrupt the awesomeness that is Danny Boyle.
I don’t think the style of Bond and Boyle go together. It’s like having Haagen Dazs ice-cream on Nachos. Nice individually but they don’t really go well together.
I dont see the issue with Danny Boyle- SLUMDOG isnt his opus (just as one swallow does not a summer make). He made a TV production called THE NIGHTWATCH which was full of intrigue and British Intelligence, and SUNSHINE was a good old fashioned good versus evil caper, even if it was against a Sci-Fi backdrop. It isnt what a director has already made that should be the only thing he is judged on, but his dealing with subject matter. Just because he hasnt done anything “Bond-like” does not mean he should be discounted, even if he is a little too indie for some.
