William Monahan to adapt Grisham’s THE ASSOCIATE for Shia LaBeouf

Once again, one wonders if the name William Monahan is actually a pseudonym for three or four Hollywood scribes because Variety carry news of at least the 100th project he has must be working on right now.

Paramount Pictures have hired the Oscar winning THE DEPARTED scribe to adapt John Grisham’s latest best selling legal thriller THE ASSOCIATE which since December has had Shia LaBeouf attached to lead.

LaBeouf will play a Yale Law School student with a sordid secret that leaves him vulnerable to blackmail. He’s manipulated into taking a job at a law firm and working on a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

LaBeouf became a fan of the novel whilst reading it on the set of TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN last Summer and convinced producer Lorenzo Dibonaventura that this was to be his next starring vehicle.

I’ve yet to read Grisham’s latest but I do like the idea of LaBeouf channeling more the Tom Cruise early 90’s (a film like THE FIRM comes to mind) than becoming the tired old young lead of the Summer blockbuster.

Jesus! SheMale LaBoof MUST have incriminating photos of every mogul in Hollywood. This guy’s career should have been OVER after than DUI fiasco.

I guess having Spielberg as your sugar-Daddy must make you bullet-proof in Tinseltown.

Why such hostility towards an actor like Shia LaBeouf? The guy is actually a decent actor. He may have started out as a dorky kid on the Disney channel, but he’s finally started to make a name for himself. Major blockbusters and sequals have brought him to the table of not just veteran actors, but people who he should consider peers.

His first work, “Holes,” was a pivotable moment and a breakthrough success wich proved his acting ability. The only thing I thought wrong about the film was his “Even Stevens” hair style. I’m certainly thankful that he decided to change that in recent years to accomodate his success.

As my opposite counterpart, JaySmack, failed to point out, Shia has locked lips with a few of Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses. I sense a bit of jealousy in JaySmack since his pursuit of acting may have failed where others have succeeded.
