Box Office: Will Ferrell comedy flops. Never thought I would see the day!
God damnit, it’s finally happened. Will Ferrell has fallen off his high perch and his lame excuse for starring in the same shitty comedy, with the same shitty character year in yet out - no longer carries any weight. At least not this weekend.
His latest movie Semi-Pro has only managed to take in an estimated $15.2 million in over 3,000 theatres. This is about half of what the movie was tracking and indeed half of what movies like Blades of Glory, Talladega Nights, Anchorman and Elf made. And wouldnt ya know, it’s another flop for New Line Cinema, who this week lost it’s four decade long independence after a year of failures and mis-guided films and advertising campaigns.
Has the Will Ferrell bubble finally burst or is this just a blib? Did he go for the sport comedy one too many times?
Elsewhere, Vantage Point has a respectable $41 million but by the reviews it’s superb trailer has blinded folks for what is a rather crappy film. The Spiderwick Chronicles is still way off it’s $90 million budget with a $58 million taking so far but the movie has yet to open in international outlets like the U.K. Still it’s looking like a big flop.
And for some reason, people are still seeing Jumper and Fool’s Gold.

Matt,
I think part of the problem is that people are finally starting to relize that they’ve seen this film ten times already. I haven’t seen it yet because I know I don’t have to. I’ll just pop in my copy of ANCHORMAN. Same film just funnier.
Why spend $9 at the theater to see a film like this? Will Ferrel movies translate to video quite well with no discernable loss.
