Who was going to direct JLA before Miller?

David SladeAnd this is what you could have won…

IESB are telling us that 30 DAYS OF NIGHT helmer David Slade was hired to direct a JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA movie in the summer and had three full weeks worth of work completed in the development stages until Warner Brothers balked on the $160 million project and decided to go for a veteran helmer who was seen as a more safe choice.

They claim the news comes straight from Slade’s mouth, who they mention isn’t bitter about WB’s decision.

Slade’s take would have been an interesting one. I once said he was shaping up to be the next Zack Snyder and him working on a JLA movie would certainly have mirrored what Snyder is doing with WATCHMEN. Here would have been two young guys given the chance to direct comic book fanboys dream projects after helming a zombie/vampire horror movie and impressing studio’s with their visual eye and youthful hunger.

But ya know, Miller is fine, they could have done an awful lot worse and there’s a couple of Marvel projects in the hands of the wrong people right now so at least Warner Brothers avoided doing that.

The site also have some news on who has read sides for the role of The Green Lantern. In this movie it was revealed the other day that this version of the Lantern will be the cool John Stewart version of the character. They say AMERICAN GANGSTER actor and hip-hop star T.I. auditioned for the part.

No word on how it turned out. Can’t say I’m all that familair with the guy but if Ridley Scott likes him enough to cast him for his movie… then he’s cool by me.

  1. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    T.I.?

    T.I.?

    Oh Jesus… can’t stop laughing… wow. Just… wow.

Ridley Scott cast him because he made sense for the role of the rebellious son of a veteran gangster. As John freakin’ Stewart? Green Lantern? The gruff, no-nonsense, older GL?

Oh man. First Jessica Biel for Wonder Woman, now this. Hey, maybe the casting agent should put down Us Weekly for a second and try to get some actors. Because at this rate we’re looking at Shia Labeouf as Flash and Ashton Kutcher as Superman getting announced next.

    This. Film. Is. An. Embarrassment.

Just when you think the superhero genre has finally arrived as a permanent, respected fixture in Hollywood, along comes WB to send us back to the Batman & Robin days.

  2. scram. I cant agree with you more. All I can think of is Biel crappy as ever in 7th heaven (not that I watched it) she sucks in everything. And with that monstrousity of a mouth. GAG. Only Liv Tyler can pull it off. Hey I got an idea. Lets cast Jack Black as Batman. Oh, lets get Leslie Nielson as the flash…

  3. Scramble, how can you call this film an embarrassment when not a single frame has been shot? I’m guessing it’s because this is getting made and not Man of Steel.

If Uwe Boll was directing an Akiva Goldsman script then I’d be worried but that isn’t the case.

What happens if this movie is actually good and you like it?

Everyone was writing off Casino Royale and look how that turned out. Mind you, hasn’t pulled the CraigNotBond people out of cloud cuckoo land.

  5. WB don’t have a great track record of DC films. Catwoman, Steel Superman 3 & 4 Batman and Robin all largely considerd crap. I still have a feeling it might still go belly up remember Superman directed by Tim Burton with Nicolas Cage or the Batman v’s Superman films greenlit but not a frame being filmed. Can they get a cast togethor of decent quality in time for a 2009 release? WB have been very coy about it which is unusual for them but I think that people are right to be wary, if they go the camp route it could be awful.
