You’d have to be living under a rock to not know that casting is currently underway for the main roles in Star Trek which officially begins shooting on November 5th. Legions of unknowns and semi-unknowns have probably gone through the casting process, reeling off lines about ‘temporal fluxes’ and the like, leaving J.J. Abrams as the Captain of the crew with some difficult decisions to make.
One role they probably enjoyed casting was that of Uhura, the ship’s communications officer and likely to be the only female on board. Tons of hotties no doubt auditioned for the part and we officially have the name of one actress who actually did (unless it was another role but it seems unlikely), and the comments come from her own mouth.
Her name, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, one of those girls from Death Proof.
According to Rotten Tomatoes at the Grindhouse DVD panel at the Con she came out with the following quote (which is strange because I’m surprised other sites didn’t pick it up)…
“did they announce the cast of Star Trek? I auditioned for it and I’m curious who got what roles in there.”
When filming is under-way she will turn 34, which is around 9 years older than the age they wanted to cast according to the information that was leaked at the weekend. That would probably make her too old for the part and that’s why she hasn’t got it.
Are they going to young with this Trek film? 34 was the prime age for the original series and look how long those characters played those parts!
