A while back when names were being branded around as to who could replace the then 64 year old Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Gerard Butler was never spoken about.
Probably because he’s not American, he was mostly an unknown actor to the general public before leading 300 and his whole presence just doesn’t straight away strike you as Indiana Jones.
An image was released yesterday over at USA Today of Butler on the set of Nim’s Island, the first directed movie from Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin (they wrote the script for Brendan Fraser’s Journey 3-D) which focuses on a magical place ruled by a girl’s imagination.
Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin (the girl from Little Miss Sunshine) also star.
Butler plays Alex Rover, ‘the world’s greatest adventurer’. Now to me, that title should only go to Indiana Jones.
Could Butler have been Dr. Henry Jones Jr?

A fair sight better than SheMale LeBoof.
You sorta forgot the rest of the story…
Gerry Butler plays the scientist father of a little girl, AND an imaginary adventurer named Alex Rover.
Obviously they camped up the appearance of Rover because he is seen thru a little girl’s imagination.
Read the WHOLE story at USA Today to understand the full storyline, Gerry’s two roles, Jodie Foster’s role, and the little girl that Breslin plays.
The photo will make more sense within context.
No, I don’t think he would have made a good Jones, but, I do have someone to offer up! Nathan Fillion. That fella’ should have been the star of the new Jones film.

Nice outfit, but it’s got nothing on the hardcore Spartan skimpy war-wear…
Yes, Gerry could play Indie’s son, and there’s no reason he still can’t. Shia is still very young and can play the younger Indie, while Gerry can play him when he’s older, and more seasoned and worldly wise.
I’d rather see the guy who plays Sawyer on LOST as Indy.
I agree with Wriker that Nathan Fillion would be a kick-ass Indy. He brings all the tools Harrison Ford did to the role. He’s charasmatic, dashing and tall. One thing’s for sure, Nathan Fillion looks like he could punch and kick his way out of any fight, Shia LeBoof doesn’t look like he could beat a fifth-grader.
To be the successor to Harrison Ford you need someone iconic,a REAL alpha-male, not some metrosexual second-stringer, Spielberg-protege who the studio hopes may grow into the role in ten years.
My answer is yes. I wanted him to play Indianna’s half-brother. After all his Dad was scottish.
