What Chicago will look like in 2055 according to Peter Hyams…

I never did catch Peter Hyams’ 2005 sci-fi movie A SOUND OF THUNDER, I don’t believe it got much, if anything of a theatrical run in this country.

The movie was based on a famous Ray Bradbury short story about “time tourists” who have the technology to go back in time but are forbidden to change anything that might effect their present and ultimately the future.

It starred Ben Kingsley, Edward Burns and Catherine McCormack and apart from the dodgy 50’s B-movie style special effects, I actually quite like the look of it…

Now an article is getting some good play on Digg, showing the concept design as depicted by director Peter Hyams for the movie. His vision of what Chicago in 2055 would look like…

chicago1_1You might wanna see it in big version HERE.

Barely heard of the movie before today but that image sure peaked my interest. Is the movie any good or have you not seen it either?

@ Matt:

“A Sound of thunder” was based on a short stoy by Ray Bradbury with the same title:

The film wasnt that bad. It was like a two-hour “Outer Limits” episode. If you like stuff like “Outer Limits” which I love) then you will be fine with the film. Its nothing great, but entertaining enough for sci-fi geeks.

Whoops. Made a mistake. Just rad “time tourists” and thought that this would be the title you referenced to.

Anyways, mea culpa.

Looks like the Simpsons Halloween special where Homer goes back in time!

Sound of Thunder is a good movie if you like cheesy 50s styled sci-fi stuff, which I happen to like. As a big Bradbury fan, it tends to deviate from the story a bit, but not to the point where is irritates you while watching.

It “piqued” your interest. Not peaked. Concept art looks dope though. Also, I’m an asshole.

Proably one of the worst films ive ever seen.

As soon as i saw Ben Kingsley’s hair i should really have come to my senses about this film – but i didnt. After sitting through what felt like 8 days of bizzare monkey-reptile hybrid things that looked like they had been animated by a 14 year old using MS paint, i was then let down even more with some even worse special effects (yes, its possible)later on in the film and a dire ending was thrown in that just about made the rest of the film look good.

Honestly, i would rather watch Jaws 4, Troll 2, any Paris Hilton film, any Wayans brothers film etc etc..

The film is basically a slightly more expensive Sci-Fi network movie. It’s like MANSQUITO with Ben Kingsley.

The movie worked wonders for me. I totally dig Sci-Fi and even though this is no Blade Runner or Stargate it did have its moments! Oh, and I am a big fan of Edward Burns.
So watch it!
