WGA and AMPTP talks resume

Will they actually come to an agreement so we can actually move forward and put this behind us now?

From Coming Soon

On Wednesday, January 23, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will begin informal discussions to determine if there is a basis for both parties to return to formal negotiations. Both the AMPTP and the WGA have agreed to make no public comments about the informal discussions until those discussions have concluded.

The writers have been striking since November 5th over their desire for higher residuals over new media. That’s 11 weeks and 2 days without work taking place on any script (outside of the few studio’s who have recently secured deals) or alterations or ad-libs made on the set of films currently shooting.

Legally, I’m not even sure if the Writers can write script notes or brainstorms, or anything.

The strike which is now at the half way point of the 1988 strike, is said to have cost the industry over $1 billion with the loss of work and sheer disruption it has caused… but of course that is the point of striking.
