Weta Digital to bring The Silver Surfer to life

442px-Silver_surfer.jpgWeta Digital have been hired to bring the popular comic book character The Silver Surfer to life for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Actor Doug Jones who brought Abe Sapian to life in Hellboy will be given the job of motion capturing the movements of the character similar to Andy Serkis’ work on Gollum for Lord of the Rings. It is not yet known who is voicing the character but it could well be Doug Jones himself as he is a well respected voice actor.

This is great news for this movie, Weta have constantly done a marvelous job with bringing a director’s vision to life on screen. Lord of the Rings wouldn’t be Lord of the Rings without the awesome work that Weta achieved.

This has to be exicting news for the movie and although I didn’t like the first movie, I can’t help but get exicted about seeing the Silver Surfer in the sequel, especially if it’s been brought to life by Weta!

  1. Why on earth does anybody care about “Fantastic Four?” After “The Incredibles” came out, the studio should have taken the film out of the cameras and thrown it into the nearest trash can. Now that the first film came out and revealed itself as a flaming pile of shit, they want to make a second one. While I understand from retarded, nipple-sucking nerds that the Silver Surfer storyline “is one of the greatest storylines ever,” my reaction remains: WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE FANTASTIC FOUR?

Is there an original idea in the entire Hollywood area?

  2. in response to your last two questions

first, “WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT FANTASTIC FOUR?” well, a hell of a lot of people. yeah the first movie probably sucked ass, i don’t know, i had no interest in seeing it…but if done right, the FF are interesting and intriguing superheroes…sadly, judging by the response the first movie got, they will probably never be done right…i, do NOT give a shit about the fantastic four

secondly, “Is there an original idea in the entire Hollywood area?” I hope this is a hypothetical question, because were it not, it would be apparent that there is not an original THOUGHT in your head. Yeah, hollywood is in a terrible habit of remaking and sequeling everything they can to make a buck these days, but there are still original films out there. Pan’s Labyrinth? Children of Men? Apocalypto? The Prestige? All of those are pretty original concepts that I am pretty excited about.

  3. Well said jcarter, couldn’t agree more. There is some exicting and original movies out there.

The Fantastic Four should have been a good movie and could have been if it wasn’t made to be marketed for kids and had a good script/director/cast. It was lacking all 3 of those elements.
