This week’s movies have a certain arthouse/Indie factor to them. I would even go so far to say that RAMBO has that kind of gorilla, Indie style of film-making.
Not that I’ve seen the movie yet. I can’t seem to enjoy his RAMBO character as much as ROCKY, though I do admit this Stallone return looks better than last year’s.
THE WEEKEND PREVIEW
BE KIND REWIND
LOVED all the bits involving Jack Black and Mos Def actually re-making films (you know, what’s actually advertised in the trailer), the moments when they re-do GHOST BUSTERS and ROBOCOP are hilarious but I hated pretty much everything else. And everything else sadly takes up much of the film. Can’t help but feel the plot might have better suited a 20 minute extra on a DVD which showcases a full length feature of what Gondry can really do.

MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS
I’m a big fan of Kar Wai Wong’s work but I can’t say his cultural shift to the English language looks all that great, even if his beautiful visuals are as amazing as ever. Maybe it’s Jude Law who has bored the hell out of me for too long now, or the fact that Norah Jones (in her acting debut) seems to have one look and tone or maybe it’s because there doesn’t seem to be much of a plot. The movie feels empty – and that ain’t no incentive to go and see it.

RAMBO
I don’t think you need my blurb on this one. We’ve had two decades of RAMBO – I think you all decided long ago whether you would want to see him again on the big screen. I’ve never particularly liked the character and the thought of killing hundreds of guys on a video game – seems more appealing to me than seeing an aged Stallone do it on screen but I’m at least thankful that this one doesn’t look as sombre as ROCKY BALBOA.
U2-3D
Again, if your not a U2 fan, I can’t see any reason why you would want to see this. Personally, I would far rather experience a U2 concert live than see it on the big screen but then again, I guess this is much cheaper – and probably less sweaty. Might be good if your cinema has a better sound system than the one that occupies my local cinema.
