We don’t get too many movie posters with big white borders these days but the upcoming crime/drama We Own the Night have chosen to go with that style. Does it work? Well kind of I guess and I can imagine this one being quite eye catching in the theatre but those shots of Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix are really uninteresting.
It’s completely different to the previous poster we showcased for the movie in May, which I’ve also added below for your comparative benefit.
Looking forward to seeing this but unfortunately for us in the U.K. it’s been pushed back till January. For those in the U.S. you can see the movie this October and you can let us know if the hype the movie received at Cannes is justified!

Ugh, the retro-white border is back. It seems every five years or so some damned fool tries to use that format because they think it evokes nostalgia. In truth it makes the movie look antiquated, and it’s stars feel old.
And Eva Mendes? Why is she still getting offered roles? She must be sleeping with as many producers as Lindsay “Firecrotch” Lohan. She’s not that pretty, not that talented and her accent’s so thick I can barely understand a word she says.
I love the top one–very 70’s. Movie posters are so hideous nowadays, case in point the new bottom version that looks like something you’d find on the cover of an Xbox game.
I love the look of that retro poster.
I’m with Michael. Most modern posters are hideous. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and arty aesthetics so the uber-70s white border of the top one wins hands down.
