WATCHMEN character photo’s!

As someone who has become pretty obsessed with the Watchmen tale over the last few years and have really come to appreciate just how powerful the novel really is, I have been rather cautious in getting too excited over this movie adaptation despite Zack Snyder impressing me with every little new tidbit and especially with ALL of the casting. He didn’t make a bad one.

It’s just I’ve been burnt before. I love Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta and especially The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and I didn’t care for either movie adaptation of those, though they both had moments that worked.

Still it’s impossible to be a Watchmen fan and not get gushy over these photo’s.

Here’s our first look at some of the characters in the movie, thanks to the official Watchmen website. They are very respectful to the original novel but have certainly been updated to match the comic book movie genre style of recent years. That’s something the movie had to do if it were to survive. I love this…

JEFFERY DEAN MORGAN AS THE COMEDIAN (looks perfect).

MATTHEW GOODE AS OZYMANDIAS (ok, so his attire half looks a little too much Batman & Robin like but the outfit certainly fits the character’s persona from the novel. Easily the worst outfit, but I don’t necessarily hate it).

JACKIE EARLE HALEY AS RORSCACH (always the easiest character to capture and design for a still photo, his outfit is just so timeless. The real test comes when we have to see him talk through the mask, something of course the comics could always do easily but with cinematic motion it might look odd).

MALIN AKERMAN AS THE SILK SPECTRE (Again, not a exact translation from the novel but it recaptures the character nicely).

PATRICK WILSON AS NITE OWL (I think he looks so cool. Yeah it’s a Batman clone but the Nite Owl character is like a Bat-detective. And remember, the novel is a deconstruction of the superhero protoypes that existed before the late 80’s, so an updated film will do the same for current movies).

Guess we have to wait to see a blue CGI Dr. Manhatten as portrayed by Billy Crudrup.

My only real dislike about the photo’s are the backgrounds to the characters which are very Snyder “green screen fakery” but I can understand why they are there to make these photo’s look more iconic.

  1. Looking good!
But still I’m afraid that Snyder will turn this into a bullshit movie, like he did with 300….but then again, I can’t stop to be verrrrry excited.

  2. I thought snyder did a great job with 300!
I think this graphic novel could really look cheesy on film but I like what he’s done here.

  3. This movie is going to be garbage. They are too young, but the Comedian doesn’t look bad.

  4. It’s way too early to be making assumptions on this film either way. I’m cautiously optimistic, and I like most of those costumes.
