The month of July belongs to Harry Potter. A new movie and the much anticipated last book in the series are all released in just a matter of days now. Last night here in the U.K., J.K. Rowling was promoting her last book and at the same time she might have actually cast veteran Bob Hoskins for Harry Potter 7.
We get this from a reader of AICN…
I just watched Jonathan Ross (BBC interview show) and this time Bob Hoskins and JK Rowling were two of his guests. During his interview with Bob Hoskins, Jonathan mentioned it was weird Bob had never starred in any of the Harry Potter films. Bob then told about a previous encounter with JK Rowling, where she had promised to write a character for him. Cut to: JK Rowling who kind of cringed, clearly having forgotten that she had ever promised that. She did, however, say that there will be a new character in book 7: a older male wizard, which could be played by Bob Hoskins. This could be only useless interview prattle, but it might turn out to be an actual casting.
Best, Melinda
No, obvioulsy Hoskins wasn’t cast last night but it’s a nice little thing to talk about. As an outsider looking in I think he would fit the Potter universe quite well.

I dunno about JK Rowling promising to write Hoskins into Potter 7, but I think J K Rowling may have wanted Bob Hoskins for the role of Horace Slughorn in Potter 6, a retired professor who comes and takes Snape’s old teaching position of Potions class. Or at least that’s how I think of it…I think Bob Hoskins could make Slughorn an interesting character and I’m sure that’s what J.K. Rowling was getting at.
I worship the ground Bob Hoskins walks on! This would be awesome.
