Announced way back in May 2007, 20th Century Fox’s movie MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, a two decades later sequel to the Oscar nominated WALL STREET is going through a re-write.

Variety say Allan Loeb, the writer of this year’s successful 21 and who is also a licensed stockbroker has been hired to scribe after Stephen Schiff’s draft just wasn’t working. Michael Douglas, is said to be waiting on the quality of the new script before he commits.

Unsurprisingly, in the current global financial climate, the movie which looked like it wasn’t going to happen… is now being fast tracked.

The modern-day story will again center on Gordon Gekko, who has recently been sprung from prison and re-emerges into a much more tumultuous financial world than the one he once lorded over. The Bud Fox character, played by Charlie Sheen in the original, will not appear in the latest incarnation.

Edward R. Pressman who produced the original 1987 movie is back on board.

No word on whether Oliver Stone would be interested in directing the sequel to his own movie which he co-wrote with Stanley Weiser, who ironically he has recently re-teamed with for W.
