Wahlberg yet to talk to Sommers about G.I. JOE!

Mark WahlbergEarlier this year, Mark Wahlberg had been attached to star as Duke in a movie adaptation of G.I. JOE but with the delays on the project and then Stephen Sommers coming on board to direct, the question of whether that is still case arises.

We know that Wahlberg has THE FIGHTER on his schedule as his next movie and we also know that G.I. JOE is a pre-strike film, so maybe the timing is no longer right from his to star in this?

IESB got the following out of the actor…

IESB: Now that G I Joe is moving forward are you up for the role of Duke?

MARK: I have no idea, Lorenzo was talking about it months back when we were promoting Shooter, but I haven’t seen a script, and you know…

IESB: Have you been in contact with Stephen Sommers?

MARK: No. No, the idea of it seems pretty out there. They haven’t really told me what they’re going for, so, we’ll see where, you know… We’re training to do The Fighter, and you know, everything else is up in the air.

Scheduling might just put Wahlberg out of the running on this one. A shame if he can’t do it, because he’s a terrific action actor and is the kind of guy who would be perfect to lead a franchise like this.

If I were Sommers I would try and move heaven and Earth for Wahlberg. You should really pick up the phone mate!

I hope Walberg is not in this, nothing against him personally it’s just he is all wrong for the role of Duke.

I wouldn’t want Wahlberg as Duke, or even in the movie. My choice would of course be Neal McDonough or Mark Valley.

Oh well, maybe Marky Mark will surprise me.

…yeah, right!
