Mark Wahlberg has spoken about the possability of future sequels to the awesome Martin Scorsese movie The Departed. I gotta tell ya, if they get Scorsese back to helm another movie in this “franchise” then it would suddenly become one of my most anticipated movies in production.
This is what Wahlberg told Empire Online…
“They told me they wanted to try to do it and I said, ‘Well, I enjoyed playing the character”.
They’re talking about bringing in De Niro to play a senator or a congressman… You know, the corruption obviously going deeper and higher up the ranks — reaching up the political chain. So it’ll be fun. And if it’s a success, they’re gonna do a prequel and bring everyone back… make it a trilogy.”
Like I’ve said before, I’m less interested in a prequel because I know all the destiny’s of these characters but a sequel I’m just fine with. Especially if they can get Robert De Niro and Mark Wahlberg signed up, there’s the beginnings of a fine cast already.
Come on Marty, you know you want too. I might try and hunt out Infernal Affairs 2 and 3 if I get chance sometime and see if those movies hold up to the original. They may give me a better idea if a sequel to The Departed would work.

The Departed spun some pretty good webs of corruption that you know didn’t stop with Wahlberg. I would be definitely be interested in seeing how deep the corruption goes and I never tire from corrupt senators.
