Voltron movie is a go!

voltronAfter the big money success of the Transformers, I think we all kinda guessed it wouldn’t be long until developments were made on a Voltron movie. Surprisingly though, the movie looks favourite to be picked up by New Regency (a sub department of 20th Century Fox) in what is one of the highest profile movies ever made under their banner.

Described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s invaders.

Just like Transformers, I have very little knowledge of Voltron so probably the little I say the better. It sounds pathetic to me and Michael Bay has pretty much killed the idea of fighting robots for me, so I don’t think this one is going to be for me.

The script comes from Justin Marks which is a name which is going to be cropping up a lot in the future I feel. He is the scribe behind the upcoming movies Street Fighter and Masters of the Universe.

Intro to the show below as usual, to wet your appetite…

“Michael Bay has pretty much killed the idea of fighting robots for me”

That’s what I feared. Once the novelty of mighty morphin robots wears off it soon sinks under a been-there, done-that apathy. Voltron could undo much of the damage Bay has done, but they need a killer-script and a director who knows how to handle the material ( a cross between Independence Day and X-Men meets Speed Racer) would be the best bet I think.

And this screenwriter is a guy I never heard of.

If it’s the same script that latino review praised, then I don’t think people have much to worry.

I can’t wait it should bring a new generation of fans and breath new life into voltron. I used to love Lion Voltron, it was the better of the 2, I hire the Lion Voltron for my son to watch and even he loves it. I am disappointed that they are basing it on Earth though, it was based on Arus. If they want fans of Voltron to watch it they better make it good. I am sick of everything that comes to Earth in movies is based in New York, in fiction that city should no longer exsist. Oh, I hope they build more into Princess Allura and Captian Keith’s romance.
