Things have progressed somewhat since the original pre-strike memo last month in that with each day that passes it’s looking more and more likely that the writers portion of the strike will commence action in November, meaning any scripts that aren’t completed far enough to begin shooting by then will be scrapped.
You can imagine some of the coffee induced all-nighters, some writers are no doubt having right now!
Coming Soon have got their hands on a NEW pre-strike memo which gives us a much less condensed list of all the films to be made before the strike, with many of them having the filming dates attached.
All these are probably subject to change, but I would imagine only by a couple of days. Those in bold are movies I’m interested in the most and I feel it’s my duty to highlight them to you…
(p.s: For those who are optimistic… Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are free till the Summer. Until someone is cast as Batman or Superman… you just never know)

No Transformers 2? Could be because it’s only just come together, or maybe it doesn’t have a chance in hell of getting done in time – at least that’s what I think – 20 days to get a script finished, Orczman (and the other guy)!
If Bale does Justice League I will eat my keyboard! I would be very surprised if over half of these are made pre strike.
They could write the “script” for Transformers 2 in ten minutes. All they need is to use some of the unused footage of people running from the first one (hell, take clips from od Godzilla movies, it’s the same quality) and then let ILM do the rest.
And Wolverine is even less encouraging. All this stuff is being rushed, except maybe Bond.
Talk about a load of rushed crap. 2008-2009 is gonna suck!
Hopefully all the silence about JL means WB really is doing everything it can to get Bale and Routh on board. Pretty unlikely though– it would’ve made so much more sense to do this flick after the third Batman and second Superman– both of which will seemingly wrap up the story arcs established in Begins and Returns. At that point, new actors would’ve been understandable, but not now. What a mess. This is all about studio panic and money, sadly.
So yeah, this is gonna be one crappy year at the movies, no doubt. Is Rose McGowan definitely in as Barbarella yet? That’s just about the only promising one on the list (that I’ve heard anything about), except maybe Lovely Bones.
Scramble,
The problem with Rodriguez is that your never quite sure with him until the day he begins shooting. This year he has told us his next film would be…
A) Sin City 2
B) Another Grindhouse picture
C) Land of the Lost
D) Barbarella
I find it interesting that Barbarella doesn’t have a start date. I know Robert works fast and all but this time it’s a studio flick (his first in AGES) so he isn’t fully in control of all aspects of the movie this time.
Maybe he’s running into problems and won’t get it pre-strike?
I’m 99% convinced Rodriguez has had Rose McGowan in mind for the part since day one and the test shots with her have only confirmed this. Aren’t they dating too? (lucky bugger).
Oh god, did I just see Dragonball Z listed there? It is going to be a crappy year for films indeed. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get some nice imports. And Matt, that’s not even half the films I’ve heard Rodriguez say he’s going to direct next. The guy has some serious commitment issues.
