Unwanted Encouragement

“Growing up, my favourite thing to do was to climb into the car and play Back To the Future. I would pretend I was Marty McFly” says Zac Efron to Teen Hollywood this week.

Which is a quote that almost made me grasp in horror when I read about it over at Movieho. The dude even owns his own fully working Delorean.

Efron recently pulled out of starring in a remake of the 80’s dance classic Footloose but if the inevitable Back to the Future revival comes, well, dear God. I don’t even want to think it.

Please Efron, don’t tell anyone about your Back to the Future obsession anymore, because it just gives people with power ideas. Terrible, sickening and loathsome ideas.

He’s a better actor than he gets credit for.

@bob: No he isn’t.

But he’s just as cute as a button!!!!!!

Yeah, seeing him on SNL confirmed that he’s not terrible. He’s got chops, and he was willing to rip on High School Musical. All of that said, I think remaking BTTF would be a terrible idea. It’s my favorite movie and I don’t think there’s a point to remake it (it still holds up pretty well on its own). I wouldn’t mind something like what McG is doing with Terminator – if they HAVE to do something new with BTTF, then make it a ’sorta sequel’ with different characters and different plot/story points. I just don’t want to see anybody other than MJF calling himself “Marty.”

Also, pointing out that he owns a ‘fully working’ DeLorean doesn’t really say much. If he had it made into a time machine replica that would make me respect him a bit more (I just got a Flux Capacitor for my birthday, and it’s going in the backseat of my Pontiac Vibe – take that, Efron!).

The main reason 80’s remakes are not a good a idea and always fail….because in the 80’s ANY movie was the shit. thats what makes it an 80’s movie. And that’s why people watch them….because its the 80’s (Dont worry i love the 80’s, some of the best movies)

Dear Scott. Watch Stayin’ Alive. Eat Words.

Seems to me that you remake things that you recon didnt necessarily achieve their full potential the first time around. It would be hard to imagine BTTF doing any better the second time around. Zaquisha as Teenwold does have a certain ring to it…
