By my own reckoning there are 8 Stephen King adaptations that have either been announced or are currently in production for a release in the next two years. For a King fan it’s great, but the track record for good King movies over the years have been few and far between.
Apart from one guy who has managed to make TWO kick ass Stephen King movies… The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Now Frank Darabont is up for a hat trick, with an adaptation of The Mist who has just cast two more.
Laurie Holden and Andre Braugher have joined lead Thomas Jane in the adaptation.
Darabont spoke of the casting…
“(Holden) was my leading lady in ‘The Majestic,’ and she is stupendous, talented and gorgeous…She plays a very key role as one the people trapped in this existential Stephen King nightmare. On the good side of the aisle, she is the female lead of the movie.”
“(Braugher) is Thomas Jane’s neighbor, a high-powered attorney who has a weekend house in Maine. They have more of an adversarial relationship,”
Out of all the King adaptations currently in production, this is the one I have the most faith in. It’s got a killer story and a director who has a track record of making really awesome Stephen King movies.
Shooting begins next month and should be out before the end of the year!
