TWILIGHT is beckoning

Variety say Sandy Meyer’s fantasy novel series TWILIGHT has been picked up by Summit Entertainment with LORD OF DOGTOWN director Catherine Hardwicke set to helm from a Melissa Rosenberg (STEP UP) script. MTV, Paramount and Maverick Films were the trio of studio’s who originally had the option on TWILIGHT but it’s now fallen into the hands of Summit Entertainment, although Maverick Films still survive as producers.

TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella, who moves to a small town to live with her father, where she falls in love with a pale mysterious classmate who comes from a family of vampires. By the sounds of it, he is a vampire too.

The series was first published in 2005 and managed a fifth place slot on the New York Times bestsellers list, with the recently published New Moon and Eclipse continuing the story and two more novels on the way. Obviously, the way these things work is that if the first movie is a success, the others will follow as sequels.

Sandy Meyer has an interesting deal here. Although she has no say over the film’s production, she has given the producers a list of people she wants to see cast in her movie. Gonna be interesting to see if she gets who she wants and is it significant that a female director is on board. Does the novel rely on a female storyteller?

Her name is Stephenie Meyer, not Sandy. And Stephenie is spelt with an “e” not an “a” please.

Also, there is only one more book scheduled to be published in the Twilight series. She intends to have an alternate version of Twilight published telling the story from Edward’s point of view. She has a book coming out called The Host which has nothing to do with vampires.

Lastly, the list of poeple she would like to see cast in the film is just a fantasy cast. Stephenie hasn’t told them who to cast at all.

If you need help with details in the future, please dont’ hesitate to contact me or visit my website.

  1. [...] I’ve had no reason to hate the TWILIGHT series up until this point. Well, except when the fans of the book abuse, bully and threaten my life because I mis-spelt the author’s name once.  [...]
