TWILIGHT fans, start to panic about that NEW MOON

No disrespect meant to Chris Weitz, it’s not my intention for this to become an attack article but I can’t help but feel you blew your epic movie with THE GOLDEN COMPASS (which we wrote and directed) a film that killed New Line Cinema should we not forget and your heavily rumored attachment to the TWILIGHT franchise should have fans worried.

Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily who originally broke the solid news that director Catherine Hardwicke had been ditched from the vampire franchise, has come up with the scoop that Chris Weitz (ABOUT A BOY, AMERICAN PIE, THE GOLDEN COMPASS) is the studio favourite to replace her.

Summit Entertainment are expected to make him a formal offer and Finke claims there’s a connection between Weitz and Summit’s head Eric Feig, who are long time pals.

Weitz originally dropped out of THE GOLDEN COMPASS a few years back because he was worried that the scope of the production was too big for him and that he was worried about pissing off fans of the novel. He was convinced to return by New Line and then failed on the two accounts he thought he might. TWILIGHT fans be worried.

Ya know, to be honest– The Golden Compass was not the HUGE HUGE failure that everyone claims it to be. I think, if you consider the circumstances Chris Weitz was in, he did a fairly good job.(it could’ve turned out a WHOLEE LOT worse than you what happened. i.e: the special effects couldve been truly horrid, editing sloppy and the story flow could’ve been disjointed to the point of unwatchable, but i think those were fairly good and taken care of)

And everyone had their doubts about Catherine Hardwicke in the beginning, but I think she did a fair job with Twilight(not amazing, but fair and true to the book I think). I didn’t read the books, so I can’t have more to complain about, but as a non-reader, the movie was enjoyable and she had the touch the first movie needed. I think Chris Weitz is a viable candidate for the director’s spot-he pulled through The Golden Compass and I can’t complain- he can do the effects and tell a story, so what are you so worried about?

I didn’t really think The Golden Compass was that bad. Kind of liked the idea behind it. I didn’t know there was some huge uprising against it. To me it seemed like a story that could have been very interesting if they continued on with it.

It was different. I actually thought it was more entertaining than movies like Lord of the Rings or Narnia. I think perhaps people didn’t like it because of the atheist point of view (or whatever it was) from the author in his books. But that really wasn’t presented in the films too heavily.
