Truffaut remade

Francois Truffaut’s 1981 film “LA FEMME D’A COTE.” is the latest fodder for the Hollywood remake, as New Line Cinema have tapped up THE WICKER MAN (remake) writer/director to scribe the script and talented Oscar winning director Taylor Hackford to helm a new take on the original.

Hackford is the critically acclaimed director of RAY, THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE and DOLORES CLAIRBONE.

Translated as THE WOMAN NEXT DOOR, Labute himself described the original film to Variety

“This is a lesser-known Truffaut film about ex-lovers, long separated, who suddenly find themselves living next door to each other,” LaBute said. “Each is married. Neither tells their spouse they know each other, and it’s a collision course into disaster as they rekindle a volatile relationship, with great passion and suspense. … Taylor said if he was ever going to remake a movie, this was the one he could do something with.”

Never seen the movie but it sounds pure Truffaut and his films are not exactly easy material to be remade.

Though Hackford gives me hope. He’s a talented helmer who has given us some great films in the past.

This movie won’t make any movements until the WGA strike is over as LaBute has only just been tapped up for the film and is forbidden to put anything on paper at this point. Hackford will first helm LOVE RANCH, the love drama starring his wife Helen Mirren and the return to the lead role of Joe Pesci.
