Justin TherouxMarvel have hired actor turned screenwriter Justin Theroux to scribe the much anticipated sequel to this summer’s blockbuster $550 million+ giant Iron Man.

Despite his writing inexperience (the upcoming Tropic Thunder is his only script to date), Marvel believe hiring one writer to see the project to the end, might take the franchise to the next level as at least four scribes worked on the first film.

Robert Downey Jr. (who was also in Tropic Thunder) is back on board as is director Jon Favreau, with an April 2010 release date scheduled.

It great to know Favreau and Downey are for sure back on board for IM2 … they certainly make wonderful magic together along with the rest of the crew.

And if the trailers we’ve seen for Tropic Thunder are an indication of Theroux’s talent for writing and with input from Downey and Favreau …. it looks like we’ll have another “best of the summer so far … that extends into late summer, fall or maybe even winter” film for 2010 !!
