TRON 2 promo shown at the Con, Jeff Bridges stars!

At the Comic Con, a teaser trailer was showcased by Disney for Tron 2 – the absolutely unnecessary sequel to the groundbreaking original 1982 film which starred Jeff Bridges – who is also back for the sequel.

Disney are being as secretive about this project as they possibly can be, very little is known at this point outside of the fact that commercials director Joe Kosinski (you may remember he did that awesome Gears of War ad that played with the Mad World soundtrack) is making his feature directorial debut with it.

AICN claim that the footage was a 3 minute promo, which will not be for the film itself….

The footage was originally done to be shown in stereoscopic 3-D, but the right eye wasn’t finished in time, so it screened in 2-D.

The Evil Flynn from the piece, the badass 1982 Flynn that takes a disc to that poor blue bastard, is apparently Flynn’s program from the original, Clu, not Flynn himself.

Seriously, does anyone care about a Tron sequel? SERIOUSLY?

The original movie was fine for the 80’s but it has hardly aged well. Is there really a demand for this

I’m interested. I’m not sure if there is an audience but I’m up for this one.

I DEMAND that there is a Tron 2, and I defy anyone who stands in their way. I will kill if necessary to see this made…

If what I heard about the trailer is true, there is a HUGE demand for this. Very retro and very dark.

Seeing Michael Edwards kill to get Tron 2 made should be a film of its own.

Lol, this Summer, George Clooney is…Michael Edwards!

I agree with Matt. Unless you’re in the over 35-crowd, which most folks hoping to see this film fall into, then there’s really no NEED to see it. I’m younger than 35 but still old enough to have been aware of TRON’s existence in the early 80s and I’m not excited or even interested.

And Jeff Bridges coming back to a role (I don’t know is two installments in nearly 30 years makes it a franchise) doesn’t make me want to shell out 10 bucks. Maybe I’m just tired of 80’s retreads.

I’m getting a vibe like this is an attempt at a Lawnmower Man meets Matrix hybrid, and I’m already underwhelmed.

I saw the footage online, and it looks incredible. It got a tremendous audience reaction at the Con. People are underestimating the possibilities of a sequel to the groundbreaking original; computers have advanced exponentially since then, and Disney could go in any wild direction for a sequel.

I’m not a Tron freak, but i’m 38, and this original movie was so cool to me at the time, with computers for the home just coming out… it really got me interested… needless to say i’ve spent my professional career with IBM, EMC, and now Red Hat. I hooked my 10 year old on the original when he was about 7-8… i can say this is the best sequel i’ve been looking forward to… as the Star Wars’s prequels were a dissapointment, and the 4th Indiana Jones film was a let down b/c of the ending. If they do this right, it’ll be a smash for all the computer-folks in my generation that loved the original.
