Despite screenings debuting on Monday night at 8pm, Transformers still had time to rake in $8.8 million on 3,050 screens on what was the “special screenings” night. The film officially opened on Tuesday where it made an estimated $29.5 million which is a fantastic opening and now makes it the highest grossing Tuesday debut of all time, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’s $15.7 million taking in 2006.
So that puts Transformers at $38 million for just over 24 hours. The movie is well on course to smash that $100 million barrier before the end of the week and is certainly proving to be a real big hit.
Is it too ambitious to say it could take $150 million by Monday?

No it’s not too ambitious Matt, TF is gonna make so much money that a sequel is gonna be rushed straight into production. My prediction is early 2010.

There may be a sequel, but it won’t be because this film makes a TON of money. I said months ago, I hoped for a 30 mil opening weekend ( but even I knew there were enough braindead morons out there to top that figure easily) but I always added that I felt it would probably be no lower than 60, no more than 80 or so it’s three-day opening weekend. I still predict at it’s current rate it will reach somewhere around 80mil by the weekend, but keep in mind that’s after FOUR days in release, not the usual three! The weekend audience will give the daily tab a bump, but it’ll be gone by this time next week. And we can start the process of forgetting this turd of a movie ever got made, and start pining for Christopher Nolan or somebody with some sense, to make a REAL Transformers movie.
This was the whole point behind Bay putting it’s opening on Tuesday. No faith in his own project, so he had to resort to a scheduling trick to artificially inflate the weekend take.
BTW I thought this movie was supposed to be the new benchmark of filmmaking. Supposed to be the next “Matrix” or “Jaws.” I thought it was supposed to make 60 mil on opening day alone. HAH! It’ll be lucky to creep across the 100 mil mark by Sunday, which I would remind you, is nearly a WEEK! away. With numbers this soft, just think of low the figures will be next weekend, especially when Ratatouille has overtaken it.
So, just as I predicted, the word is out on this turd of a flick. Everyone can see this “movie” is just a SFX-gimmick (transforming CGI characters) and that Bay’s hoping to use ILM to keep his “career” afloat a little bit longer. I and everyone else who trashed this film are being vindicated. Let that be a lesson to you Bay: talentless a**hole hack directors never prosper.

I don’t think so. I’d go as far as to guess $200M for Monday.

Well in 24 hours Transformers made 38 million. Man this topped out The Simpsons Movie in one week of 74 Million. And Transformers made more money then The Simpsons Movie which would be about $284.7 in 4 weeks. Wow that’s got to do some creative thinking how Bay actually did this film. Even thought computers were a big part creating all these Robots that were actually fighting. But all movies are done with computers. So live up to the fact that movies are made like that Sam. As for the fact that Bay created a dumb movie well a worthless Trasnformers movie you suggested that May has done, your wrong. Actually your 100% wrong and you know nothing about the movie ratings, HOW he’s made his movie, the gross of the weekend or week it’s self or the 24 hour period, AND or how Bay made his biggest pliot of them all at the end where everything adds up about their world and ours. You might want to keep Bay off your mind for a little while and not sit back and talk shit. This movie has made tons of money. I’m sure almost all has liked the movie. Yes there will be another one just like this. BUT BETTER. But seriously 60 million? Well if you ask me none of those movies you listed were up to 60 million opening day. But 38 million in 24 hours has got to be enough of the making of this movie. If not more.
I thought Transformers rocked. It had great effects, a great story line, great people to play the parts/roles, great climax, and a great ending. And all the pieces still fits. We all know theres going to be another movie. Not how it ended but how the cartoons kept going with it until it died down. Even the cartoons were a story line to this Movie called Transformers. And it still tells the story. Just watch everyone.
