Trailer: THE COTTAGE

Released in the U.K. this March, THE COTTAGE is a slasher film with the genius idea of making the villain a disgruntled psychopath farmer who is sick of people trespassing on his land.

Fun concept and it’s kinda going for THE WICKER MAN eeriness, matched with some of THE EVIL DEAD camera work, a little SHAUN OF THE DEAD, a little of the dark League of Gentlemen show and a cross almost between the GRINDHOUSE trailers THANKSGIVING and DON’T.

Your head’s probably spinning right now but I couldn’t help but think of all of those movies when I first watched this trailer…

Starring familiar British faces Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith and Jennifer Ellison, THE COTTAGE is the second movie written and directed by Paul Andrew Willaims, he of LONDON TO BRIGHTON fame. Never did get chance to see that movie, though I hear it ain’t too bad and quite violently claustrophobic.

I’ll probably see this, not specifically because the trailer has won my money but just because I’m in desperate need of a good horror movie and with things like SEVERANCE and SHAUN OF THE DEAD… it’s the comedy aspect of the genre which is delivering the goods right now over what Hollywood are producing.

  1. There’s another slasher film out soon actually, it’s called ‘All the Boys Love Mandy Lane’ and isn’t a bad effort. Doesn’t have the comedy element but isn’t just throwing out the same old garbage either. I saw it recently so I’ll have a full review up soon…
