TRAILER: HANCOCK

Smart timing. The Monday after the biggest opening of Will Smith’s career and we get word of Columbia Pictures putting out a trailer for next year’s big budget action vehicle for the A-Lister. The movie is HANCOCK, the previously titled TONIGHT HE COMES and sadly it looks a little less serious than we were all hoping it to be BUT it still doesn’t look terrible.

Yes the whale thing is stupid. Yes the atmosphere is a little too much like MY SUPER EX GIRLFRIEND than it should be, but there’s still potential in this.

There’s potential in this to be a live action version of THE INCREDIBLES if they can get to the emotional core of an under-appreciated superhero who has given up on life more than Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent or Peter Park ever have on film.

I like Peter Berg (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, THE KINGDOM) and his directing style and I think he’s a good match for this. Hope to see more of the Theron/Smith/Bateman dichotomy in the next trailer and this film is just begging to be advertised in Quicktime.

Reserve full judgment till we get a better quality, but there’s a few good moments here if you look for them…

  1. Will Smith continues his non-stop rampage through the box-office. Good for him.
