Toy Story 3 will hit our screens sometime in 2009, but here’s the real kicker….. John Lasseter WON’T be directing. Ouch!
Instead Lee Unrick will be helming. He apparently “co-directed” Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo and Monster’s Inc, but how much he actually contributed to those respective projects I have no idea.
At least they have kept it in the family I suppose, but god knows why Lasseter doesn’t want to make another movie. The official line is that he is “too busy” but you gotta know that if he wanted to make another Toy Story movie, he would completely clear his schedule for such a thing.
The guys have hired Michael Arndt to write the script who’s only work so far was on Little Miss Sunshine which of course won him an Oscar Nomination. The trade says that Pixar expects Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to return for the picture.
So happy/sad about a possible Toy Story 3? I will say that it’s better than what they had planned in 2005 when they were going to make a movie without the input of Pixar and if Lasseter manages to have some say in the movie somehow, then I have no problem with it.
I would prefer they didn’t make another movie, but I said that in 1997 when the push towards a sequel to Toy Story was being made….. and when it came out I LOVED TOY STORY 2.
So at the moment I’m ok with it.
