The Hollywood Reporter say that DOCTOR WHO and JEKYLL scribe Steve Moffat will pen the TINTIN trilogy, the joint collaboration between Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg which will see them each helm one movie, before settling on who will direct the third.
Can’t say I was much of a fan of JEKYLL but it was a BBC drama, and you don’t often get too much freedom with those. I hate the new DOCTOR WHO that’s been playing on our screens for the last couple of years but that’s another story, for another time.
IESB also have interesting news today, although it’s a little disturbing. They are they telling us that Alex Tse’s WATCHMEN script has been tweaked by not only director Zack Snyder but also by the writing duo of Alex Kurtman and Roberto Orci.
Yes that duo who brought us ‘eBay’ and other such crap in TRANSFORMERS and the guys who have wrote the new STAR TREK script, which looks to have a young and old Spock as the two lead characters, if rumors across the web are to believed.
I really liked the draft of Tse’s WATCHMEN script which I read. Yeah, it needed some tweaking in the second to final third but they didn’t need to go out and hire these two guys. Let’s hope their contribution was little. Remember, they wrote the script to THE ISLAND as well.

What the movie moguls have here are two sacred texts. My particular interest is in Tintin – I’m not a huge fan of the new Doctor Who and am extrememly nervous at what kind of monstrosity could eventually hit cinemas and uproot all that was so special abput Herge’s original stories.
The only reason for optimism at the moment is the involvement of Spielberg and Jackson. Sadly, the presence of second-rate Brit TV drama scriptwriters doesn’t ease my concerns. The same goes for Watchmen. Here’s hoping that they don’t tweak it into big dumb Transformers trash and destroy the original graphic novel’s atmosphere.
Orci and Kurtzman have been pretty crap since Alias. Another question mark against Watchmen. Don’t come crying to me if it turns out rubbish, I’m starting to get that sinking feeling!
“Orczman”’s best film work was with Abrams on MI3, so hopefully he can cajole a decent script out of them for Trek… otherwise they’re gonna be on the receiving end of the nerd apocalypse.
I never watched Jekyll or Dr Who but Moffat I remember watching Coupling and being surprised at how much I liked it (a Friends clone that’s miles better than Friends!).
Yeah I like Coupling too, but it’s a different kettle of fish to the other things he has done. Maybe he should have stuck with comedy.
