News of a strange casting has come through from Variety. Enjoying a recent comeback, Tim Allen has been hired to star in the mixed martial arts movie Redbelt to be directed by David Mamet from his own script.
The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (who apparently has gone through some rigorous training) as a Jiu-jitsu master whose purity is put into threat when he becomes involved in the movie business and is manipulated into brawling in the ultimate fighting world. Tim Allen will play a troubled action star with marital problems.
Emily Mortimer, Alice Braga, Joe Mantegna, Rodrigo Santoro among others will star, along with famous fighters from the martial arts and UFC world including Randy Corture and Ray Mancini.
This movie sounds pretty awesome. What a change of direction for Allen, who has done nothing like this before in his long career, filled with mindless comedy roles. Let’s see what the actor can really do with a dramatic part.
Can’t help but feel he should have done this earlier in his career.
