Legendary veteran Hollywood producer Dino De Laurentiis and his daughter producer Rafaelle have put into development a big screen adaptation of the t.v. show MACGYVER over at New Line.
Series creator Lee Zlotoff is also on board according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“MacGyver” was a science-oriented adventure series that ran from 1985-92 on ABC. Richard Dean Anderson, later of “Stargate: Atlantis” and “SG-1″ fame, starred as an incredibly resourceful secret agent for the Phoenix Foundation who frequently would escape from dangerous situations with ingenious and lightning-quick engineering trickery.
The hunt for a writer is on and the Laurentiis’ think they have a “global franchise” on their hands. I would think the idea is to reboot, or re-imagine the series rather than bringing back Anderson to lead.
I’m not familiar at all with the show so I can’t really comment. Though if my age group (early 20’s) is the demographic they are looking to reach out too, I might be an indicator that no-one cares. Though I’m guessing this is a well known show in the States.

Greatly looking forward to this actually.
This show was such a riot!! Every week Macgyver eluded danger with a chocolate bar bomb or a chewing gum machine gun, so so funny. It was MASSIVE in Australia also!
It is the stuff of parody legend. I really don’t see this being possibly serious because its humourous reputation precedes its serious one and if it was made into a comedy it would be no better than Get Smart.
I always wanted to bring back old show like this…
