There Will Be Blood Poster

Paul Thomas Anderson looks like he has knocked one out of the ball park once again with There Will Be Blood which see’s a rare lead performance from the acting god that is Daniel Day Lewis. I’ve been anticipating this movie ever since we saw the awesome trailer a few months back and well it’s Anderson and Lewis… two extremely talented guys who don’t work nearly as much as we would like them too.

But because they make so few movies, each one they do make has a bigger stature and myth around it. AICN through Slash Film are debuting the new poster for There Will Be Blood which we are showcasing below. I don’t think I need to tell you it’s suppose to look like a book and you know it’s kind of beautiful in it’s own way but there is no way in hell that if I was a studio financing a movie would I let that poster loose in cinema’s.

The average Joe is going to walk past that poster as if it were a little public annulment advertisement for the health and safety of visiting a cinema. The writing is so small and difficult to read, the background so black that it takes effort to see what this poster is about and that’s the last thing you want the public to have to do to because they aren’t really one’s for making efforts.

Bad but beautiful poster aside, if this isn’t one of the best movies of 2008 then I will be absolutely shocked. Look for this in January and really folks, we don’t get the privilege of seeing actors like Daniel Day Lewis everyday so this is a one not to be missed.

  1. Gothic and grim: I like it. However your concerns about whether it will grab attention are well-founded Matt. If the marketing whizzes get their gear together though this is a potential base for a great viral campaign. Hard-backed mini-prints of the poster handed out at cinemas and subversive extension onto the web could make this the kind of cult stuff that nerdy film fans dig.
