Lists are all subjective, therefore to each individual person various choices are always going to leave you scratching your head.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN USUAL SUSPECTS
A new list from The Guardian Online lists the Top 100 Most Memorable film moments in the history of cinema AS CHOSEN BY 15,000 READERS and their choice for number one is very strange indeed. They believe the most memorable scene out of a hundred years of cinema to be that scene in The Usual Suspects when actor Chazz Palminteri realizes exactly who Keyser Soze is at the end of the film.
I’m really shocked by that. Out of all the great moments in film, that is truly the most memorable ever? I can’t believe so many people voted for that moment! Here is their top ten list…
1. The Usual Suspects – Keyser Soze revealtion
2. Psycho – The shower scene
3. The Third Man – Orson Welles’ entrance to the movie
4. 2001: A Space Oddyseey – Flying bone to ship moment
5. Apocalypse Now – Dawn helicopter attack
6. Blade Runner – Time to die scene
7. The Great Escape – Steve McQueen’s bike escape
8. Casablanca – Rick and Ilsa part at the airport
9. Planet of the Apes – Ending
10. Some Like it Hot – No-one’s perfect line
Some great moments in their for sure, but really The Usual Suspects?
Other great moments that I think should have made the Top Ten…
20. Taxi Driver – You talking to me
36. The Shining – Here’s Johnny!!
58. The Empire Strikes Back – I AM YOUR FATHER (seriously, 58? No way)
NO APPEARANCE FOR INDY JONES AND THAT OPENING SCENE WITH THE IDOL FROM RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK IS SIMPLY CRIMINAL I TELL YOU!!!
Do you agree/disagree with The Guardian’s poll?
I’ve never been all that fond of The Usual Suspects personally and I don’t know if it’s because I’m the only person alive who seemed to know that it was Kevin Spacey all along or because it’s just a very average film. Did no-one else see that Spacey was Soze? I thought it was so frikkin obvious it was untrue!

Raiders of the Lost Ark comes in at 26 from what I can see?
Where is Oldboy? How can anyone who see’s that movie EVER forget the ending. And a personal addition which I’d have, because it’s simply excellent…
“FEED ME A STRAY CAT”.
Yeah your right, I must have missed that!
Feed Me A Stray Cat should of been up their, classic. I would of had the helicopters in Apocolypse Now at number 1.
Matt, did you see this in theters when it first came out, or did you see it later? This is mportant because when this was released in theaters Kevin Spacey was not a very well known actor, and in the things that I had seen him in, he had always played a pussy. I think that is where most people come from on this. But if you had seen this a few years after the initial release, after Spaceys brilliant turn in seven, then it is much easier to spot.
I think your onto something there Craig, because I didn’t see the film until after he had won his Oscar for American Beauty also, when Spacey was on top of the industry and as you say Spacey had already played a serial killer in Se7en.
That must have played a part in my enjoyment, just as movies like Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho does for people who know lots about it these days before they actually see it for themseleves.
