Can you believe this? Helen Mirren who just a month ago picked up her Oscar for Best Actress in The Queen has now signed up for a role in the mindless Disney adventure sequel National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets!
Not only that but Variety are reporting that Ed Harris will be playing the villain in the movie, which is just absolutely awesome news as that’s what the guy does best.
Obviously it will be more subdued than his previous villainy roles with it being a family movie and all, but his presence and that icy cold look of his could very well steal the movie.
Helen Mirren, who producers of far more serious films would probably do anything to cast…. will play Nicolas Cages’ mother.
That’s an absolutely HUGE plus for the flick and it makes you wonder whether Disney chucked at them all the money they made from the first movie…. or even stranger, if the pair actually enjoyed the original and pushed for a part in the sequel.
Seriously though, I did like National Treasure. It was a 3 star flick, that even though it was mindless… I enjoyed it as a fun Christmas film that never took itself too seriously.
Mirren might be the bigger name right now but it’s the Ed Harris casting that is going to make the big difference to this movie.
