The next RESIDENT EVIL movie is coming quicker than you think!

Resident Evil has been a surprisingly successful franchise. Surprising because of course, the series is based on a video game… something that has rarely been a financially worthwhile avenue for movie studio’s.

All three Resident Evil movies have grossed over $100 million worldwide and despite it’s mostly disdain from critics, it’s found a niche audience and Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson continue to draw them.

Variety reports that the next Resident Evil movie will not be a fourth film in the franchise with Ali Larter’s character Claire Redfield replacing Jovovich. Instead it will be Biohazard: Degeneration, a 3D animated movie which Sony Pictures and Capcom Entertainment are teaming together on, with a late 2008 release date planned.

The movie will not have any continunity to the other three movies and will be based on an original idea.

No cast or crew are attached as of yet.

Hey, why not?

A 3D animated zombie movie (which has to be R-Rated) might just have that little bit of quality that is missing from the live-action series.

  1. I don’t like this idea at all, seems like a cop out. I say reboot the franchise and give the fans something they actually want, not some wannabe action movie bullshit. Resident Evil should have been a tense action horror, what we ended up with was some watered down crap. I hated Jovovich’s character and the fact they sidelined all the ACTUAL characters from the games. The first flick I didn’t mind so much because it was kind of set up as a prequel to the first game, but by the second one it all turned to crap. Forget this animated rubbish, give us the real deal and do it right.

  2. Well, Paul W.S. (Worthless Screenwriter) Anderson isn’t involved, which is a good move.
I hated the first Resident Evil, thought the casting for the second was lop-sided (Ali Larter looked like an anorexic Claire Redfield, though she did come off as capable of being tough) and the story more camp than creepy.
Don’t want to see the third one -ever! Paul Anderson has tricked his last dollar out of me.

This new one’s going to be animated? I’m not sure how I feel about that move. This isn’t like Beowulf, this is a video-game property here. Final Fantasy didn’t do well, and if it’s animated that automatically makes people think it’s for a younger crowd.
But then again, since it will be coming after Beowulf, it migt be taken a little more seriously, is the marketing push is done right.
    Hell, it’s got potential.

  3. That’s gayer than when gay came to gay town. They need to keep the movies like they are and not make them animated. Id be like takin the Saw movies and makin them cartoons so that they can make better effects. I think that it will be good but not as good as the non animated ones

  4. It’s like hollywood to leave a good series of movies on a cliffhanger and for some damn reason decide some damn day to make the following sequel a 3d animated movie that doesn’t even follow the original 3 movies!!! Typical fucking hollywood bullshit!!! Just damn typical…It’d be in the producers interests to say ’screw the fucking animation shit, lets just use the same characters and make the next movie fucking amazing!’ and trust me when I say that I speak for all the other resident evil fans out there, that they would much rather see a movie that carries out the other’s…And not a God forsaken mother fucking 3D ANIMATED MOVIE!!!

  5. ok the previews do look cool but what happened with the ending of 1 2 and 3…there should be another mmovie that ends it all….seriously in the third one they leave you hanging in tokyo….i would have thought that there would have been a fourth, not an animated movie of the game basically….

  6. What I would like to see in the next RE movie is more of the same of what was in the first three…Milla kicking zombie ass! That’s not too difficult to understand is it. I will keep paying $8.50 or whatever anytime an new RE movie comes out. I would never go see an animated movie no matter how good the special effects.

  7. I’ve been an RE fan for sometime now, but I lost track for a while. I like the first RE movie. I must have seen it about 15 times, for real. The other 2 where fucking SHIT! I wouldn’t have seen the 3rd movie. If it wanst for my mom’s bf buying it. What the fuck was that piece of shit. The story was stupid. Ashanti really? Gay! and not in a good way. It just makes me mad. I love zombie flicks. There waayy better Z movies the all 3 films. They should have stuck to the GAME’S STORY Line in All films! . This animated film doesn’t sound so bad though. Ugh I hate paul and milla annoys me now. Eek!

  8. I dont think an animated resident evil would be good, in the third movie at the end we’re bunch of cloned alice’s and she threatened umbrella and that was is , you guys need to go from where they left off and make a fourth.. dont ruin it by making an animated movie.

  9. I think it should all be up to capcom because they’re the ones that made Resident Evil what it is today. It is bullshit that they are not baseing the movies on the games, because i would love a movie based on RE4 and/or the up coming RE5. It may be bullshit that they are leaveing it at a cliffhanger but trust me they will go back and finish off what they did because I knew from the first game that it would become a movie just cause hollywood screws up every thing that is made into something retarded.but, on a good note word through the grape vine is there might be a new director when they pick back up.

  10. Personally I enjoyed the first two, but I think the third one just plain sucked. Also number four sounds like complete rubbish, it’s not really the it being animated part but it’s the not following the story of the other 3

  11. RE, movies are WACK!. The Should have stuck to the Game’s Storyline.

  12. First, I have to give props to the “gayer than when gay came to gay town” dude, just cuz that’s hilarious. And secondly, I’d like to say that personally, I have always loved the Resident Evil films, for the same reason that I adore the Nightmare on Elm Street series, the Poltergeist series, the Alien series, and so on and so forth. There is a special place in my heart for the cheesy horror/sci fi movie franchise, and there always will be. Not to mention my absolute love for the goddess that is Mila. So the idea of the next film being animated, not related to the other 3, and not involving Ms. Jovovich is practically blasphemous. I only want more of the same shtick! Why mess with a not-broken goofball cliche?

  13. Cuz it’s stooopid!, they have to fix all the wrongs . Which are all 3 live action movies. Was it really so hard to stick to the game’s storyline. Plus Romero would have done a waayy better job than dumb Cunt Paul s. Cunt bitch.

  14. Okay for all the people who don’t know, the animation RE flim is toltaly seperate from the last three films, IT GOES WITH THE GAMES! dumbasses, if you’re a real fan you’d know that, when they made the first movie they didn’t go along with the first game. All they used was the mansion idea. So don’t say the freakin movie’s gonna suck! They’ll make a forth “real life” movie.

  15. ok this movie isn’t taking off from the 3rd as its a different story all together. 4 will and i repeat will be made but will take rather along time concidering all the UGI with alice and the whole army of her! this is just a progject to keep y’all intrested. Trust me.. i know a pretty good source.

so dont worry. this is just a sideline progject and number 4 will be made in the near future.

  16. I love zombie movie’s including RE and my only beef with all zombie movies is there is 2 much filler and that was why i didnt much care for the 3rd resident evil film what i wana see is the creepy RE music over major metropolis cities that are abandoned and burning to the ground (while the credits roll),the main story a massive fight between humans and zombies which RE3 had and the final boss.

Comment by stephen poehler | September 27, 2008

  17. Im not looking forward to this animated movie bullshit.I am very excited with these RE movies. I think there should be another movie that follows from the third movie called Extinction. Once you start a movie you need to continue with the movie until u finish it with a good ending. Why would you end Extinction in Tokyo, that is retarded. Animated movies suck im sorry to say…..
