THE KNIGHTS TEMPLER vs. VAMPIRES… it’s all out war!

This project sounds overall and that’s coming from someone who usually likes high concept genre-bending pictures.

After Dan Brown and all the recent literary knock-off’s and conspiracy theory documentaries, I’m pretty sure your about as sick of The Holy Grail as I am.

So along comes a new spec script from two newcomers titled The Knights Templer that has fallen into the hands of Universal.

It has a slight new twist on the Holy Grail saga and they are quick to pick it up. The only bad thing is – and it’s quite a major bad thing actually – it sounds ruddy terrible…

Plot puts a horror spin on the famed organization of fighters from the Middle Ages, with the Knights Templar, fresh from the Crusades, forced to fend off an invading vampire army set on destroying the Holy Grail.

And wouldn’t ya know it – Russian director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch) has been hired to produce and possibly direct which I’m not dissing the guy – but it just shows you the intentions of this film right there.

Adam Torchia and Justin Stanley wrote the spec script.

It’s one of the worst sounding movies I’ve heard in a long time. Why would vampires want to destroy the holy grail and the idea of Crusaders in full armor fending off blood sucking vampires – doesn’t actually work well in my head.

No way! This sounds like a ludicrously enjoyable film! It certainly beats another Grail flick that gets all poe-faced and pumps out more Arthurian nonsense. A lot depends on the manner in which the filmmakers attack this premise, but it sounds like it could be an appealing film.

Vampires are cool; knights are cool. The Crusades are an incredibly rich and stiumulating historical set of events and likewise the same is true of the Holy Grail legends and secret societies such as the Knights Templar.

Sick of the Holy Grail? You know, it’s only a matter of time before they make Assassin’s Creed into a movie too.
