The Golden Compass is looking to fill that huge fantasy flick hole we’ve had for four years now since The Return of the King stunned us all and completely own the genre probably for this generation. Early attempts to ride on that success with Narnia and Eragon both both failed miserably creatively although they were both profitable for their respective studio’s when all was said and done.A look to this year’s fantasy epic and can The Golden Compass finally give us a taste of what we have been missing out on?

I’ve feared for some time that the flick was struggling to find it’s own identity and these posters do nothing to give it that unique feel that this movie so desperately needs.

The Golden Compass needs to feel fresh and original and personally this poster just feels like a hack job to me. Hopefully the movie won’t turn out that way. Thanks to Cinematical for the heads-up.

The Golden Compass is released on December 7th 2007.

I don’t know anything about this project, but I’m already thinking it’s misguided. Bad sign numero uno: Daniel Craig’s face is the first one you see on the picture (Westerns read left to right) and the only “marquee” actor besides Ms Kidman, yet his name comes last on the star line. Is he a villain perhaps, like John Malkovich in Eragon?

And I agree Matt on the poster. The design shouts BORING! This is something made for pre-adolescents, and not the Harry-Potter variety either. This looks like some Peter Pan crap.
They should have gone for a bold color scheme instead of this washed-out pastel look, and something shiny with glow effects, it is called the GOLDEN Compass, after all, and doesn’t gold shine and glow?
There’s a reason Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter’s posters were so successful at piqueing interest: they made it where this was something you were acutally motivated to see. This poster looks more like an advertisement for a new (and from the looks of things, uninspired) Disney Family TV show or something, not a major (is it major?) theatrical release.

Craig’s character doesn’t play a large role in the book and I’m assuming that’s carrying over to the movie.

As for the film, I think it’s looking great but I don’t like this poster one bit. Too much going on.

well i was fan of eragon and thinking narnia is good.. but the golden compass is just soooo much better.. so they are good but the golden compass is best.

so dont say eragon was a failure. everyone has their own taste. and that one was good cause it lies to my taste of films. so it just depends on what people likes.
