The Music Branch Executive Committee of the Academy have reversed their decision on the disqualification of THE DARK KNIGHT’S great musical score and allowed it to join the Academy Awards race once again.
Variety say a committee came to the conclusion that Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard were solely responsible for how the score turned out and how full authorship.
Although I’ve yet to see many of the heavy awards buzz movies of 2008 yet (most of them haven’t opened in this country), from what I’ve heard THE DARK KNIGHT has the best musical score of the year. Love this Harvey Dent tune… so hopeful, elevates his character in the first act into more than what was written I think.
And then goes so tragic…
The late reversal has not affected it’s chances as the Academy Members are yet to receive their ballets.

The Harvey Dent theme is present in Batman Begins. In fact, hardly any new music is in Dark Knight, except for the Joker theme, which is largely borrowed from a scene at the beginning of Heat. If they didnt nominate Batman Begins score, which was far more sensitive and varied, then it would be utterly hypocritical to nominate TDKs score. It would simply mean they are buying into the buzz, and nominating for nomination's sake. It's not that great or interesting a score.
To me, this nomination would make even less sense than a Best Picture nomination.
